Abramson, J. – Chapter 11: Rousseau and the Rustic

In his novel The Confession Rousseau is making different remarks such as:

1. When stealing anything and blaming it on another person who would eventually be punished for this crime. If this was public this person who blamed the other person didn’t want to get his/her reputation lowered 2. Women should be good and everything underneath considers them prostitutes 3. It is of great importance that the marriage and the child should be a bond and not being married with a child is a sign embarrassment and disrespect to the system

He believes that state of nature is a fiction and it’s hardly possible to achieve that system within the state. It is impossible because there is no scarcity. Natural necessities of humans are modest. Rousseau believes that there is no need for conflict between individuals in the state because lives of individual are self-sufficient. State of Nature is more static than any other.

An individual that lives in the State of Nature is good because he is not in touch with the outside world and also with enlightened ideas of civilized individuals. This natural man knows about satisfaction, and has no morality. Even though he is immoral he doesn’t attack other individuals. This is because he lives with himself, doesn’t know about medicine and doesn’t require medicine. The reason for that is that he lives a modest life that is too basic to require all of the necessity that civilized people need.

On the other hand we have individuals that are civilized and he calls it the Civilized man. This is a man that is totally opposite to the Natural man. He doesn’t rest and he is al the time ill. Unlike the natural man is not all the time satisfied. The most important aspect about this individual that he acknowledges that killing is wrong, however at the end he does it anyways.…...

Chapters 9-11 Summary

...Chapter 9 Summary Majority of Chapter 9, Transportation Risk Management, speaks of the Risk Management Process. The Risk Management Process breaks down into four different categories or steps. These steps, not in any particular type of order, include Risk Review and Monitoring, Risk Identity, Risk Analysis and Risk Management. In step 1, risk identification, the goal is to capture as many transportation disruption risks as possible. Some of the techniques that are used for risk identification include brainstorming, interviews, surveys, historical data and documented knowledge. Brainstorming usually can be identified as meetings that are held with knowledgeable members that participate in conversations that create new thoughts and ideas. During brainstorming, they take the original ideas and help make them into a stronger, complete list of risks. Interviews and surveys differ from brainstorming because they are used to capture transportation risk information from individuals while brainstorming is used upon a group of individuals. Historical data and documented knowledge provide a collection of information about specific transportation activities, service providers and trade lanes. (Coyle, P. 295) Some of the common transportation disruption risks include product loss, product damage, product contamination, delivery delay, supply chain interruption and security breach. Product loss consists of product pilferage, shipment jettison, piracy and hijacking. Product damage......

Human Resource Management Summary Chapter 12

...HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT CHAPTER 13 Working with Unions and Resolving Disputes * THE LABOR MOVEMENT * In U.S, while union membership is down, about 14.8 million of their workers still belong to unions * Many of them are still blue-collar workers, but many are professionals and even fashion models. * Union membership also ranges widely by state, from over 20% in New York to about 4% in North Carolina * Support for unions has always ebbed and flowed in America, and today pressures are building against unions. * Why do Workers Organize? * People have spent much time analyzing why workers unionize, and they’ve proposed many theories, but there is still no simple answers * It’s clear that workers don’t unionize just to get more pay, although the pay issue is important. * But pay isn’t always the issue * Often, the urge to unionize seems to boil down to the workers’ belief that it’s only through unity that they can protect themselves from management. * In sum, employees turn to unions at least partly because they seek protection against the employer’s whims. * What do Unions Want? * We can generalize by saying that unions have two sets of aims * One for union security, while the other is for improved wages, hours, working conditions, and benefits for their members. * There are 5 types of union security: 1. Closed Shop 2. Union Shop 3. Agency Shop 4. Preferential Shop 5. Maintenance of......
