Adoption in the Middle School Years

Introduction
To adopt a child means to take another’s child and raise him/her as one’s own. The process of adoption will have numerous rewarding experiences as well as difficult ones. When it comes to adopting a child in the middle school years, more challenges will present themselves than in any other age group. During this age, children begin to develop a sense of identity and begin to question their life experiences and their biological parents. School-aged children at this age go through numerous significant developmental changes. Much of their identity is derived from their family and peers in their lives. However, for adopted children, developing an identity is more complicated than non-adopted children. They have to assimilate two separate families and biological backgrounds as they explore how they fit in and the person they are growing up to be. Many of these children often face self-esteem issues and self-worth, and that is what makes them different from other children. A majority of adopted children have difficulty building social relationships with those around them and this can lead to depression, low academic performance, and even aggression. It is clear to see why adopting a younger child would be much simpler, but older children need homes, as well.
Research 1

For many decades, adoption has become a highly successful solution for many adults who cannot provide for their children. Although adoption is viewed as a solution by those who cannot care for their children due to a variety of reasons, adoption can also be a problem. The common age group adoption plays an effect on are middle-aged children. Adoption influences the behavioral, social, and psychological functioning of children. Children from ages 6 to 8 are commonly seen in special education classes and need more attention. In a research article,…...

Middle School Teachers

...Middle School Teachers Fatina Bunch EDU 623 Introduction to Teaching And Learning Instructor: Julie-Ann Adkins September 3, 2012 Middle School Teachers As a teacher, I feel that the middle school is my place. I must say that middle school is a different atmosphere for learning. The teachers who are fortunate enough to enter a student’s life during these critical years will do a lot more than provide an academic education they will also provide lifelong lessons to produce productive citizens. It takes a special talent and personality to connect with students in the middle school. The middle school concept has many different grade combinations ranging from grade five to grade nine, but to be classified as a middle school the combination must contain grade seven. Middle schools deal with students while they are living through their developmental years of their lives. During these years they do not really belong to a designated group, they are in the middle. They are not babies, toddlers, or adolescents they are sometimes referred to as “tweeners”. “Tweeners” is a term to identify the middle school student.(Manning 2000) Yes the title is unique just like the middle school student. During middle school the students are trying to understand who they are and where they should fit into their environment. So as a middle school teacher one would have to be patient, caring, and loving. The teacher has to be able to communicate with their students......

The Middle Adulthood Years Observation Psychology Essay

...Middle adulthood is the time period from 35 years of age until 64 years of age. It is the midpoint of a person’s life. Many people have achieved happiness at this point in their lives, but there are some who feel like they are that much closer to death without accomplishing anything. Just like any other point in life this time period brings about many changes and stresses to deal with daily. How a person handles these issues determines if he or she achieves total happiness with their own self. Webster defines middle as “equal distance from the beginning to the end” (Dictionary, 2010). It also states that the word adult is a person who is “fully grown or developed” (Dictionary, 2010). Basically by combining these two words a person is half way through with his or her life. There is not a magic crystal ball that can 100% correctly predict when a person’s ticker will stop beating. Researchers did a study and came up with an approximate life expectancy of women. These researchers took an average of women in 17 different countries and came up with a life expectancy of approximately 82 for the year 2000 (Bongaarts, 2009). There are many factors to be considered that could change these numbers significantly. This number is just an educated guess of women who are in good health and get the proper amounts of nutrition and exercise. Most people probably would not want to know an exact time that their life will end. If people live a good lifestyle then their life expectancy is much......

School Year Round

...Relieve Parents Year-Round Esther J. Cepeda wrote “Ring the school bell year-round” to be read in The Washington Post. This controversial topic was published August 16th, when schools across the country are beginning to go back into session. Cepeda shares her thoughts on keeping students in school spring, summer, fall, and winter. Using personal situations and allusions to other articles, Cepeda makes her opinion of having school year-round very clear. In the first sentence of the opinionated piece, Cepeda says “It’s mid-August and parents across the country are breathing a sigh of relief that their tours of duty as surrogate educators finally will end.” Cepeda’s tone suggests that she is glad school has started once again. The way Cepeda refers to all parents suggests her propaganda of plain folks. This article can be appealing to any guardian of a student; whether they agree or disagree with the rest of the piece. What Cepeda has to say in the rest of her writing will ultimately effect how the readers react but in the first sentence it is easy to determine her stand point on the situation. Cepeda almost refers to the schooling systems as a daycare and when school is not going on, parents are burdened by their children. As Cepeda goes on, she discusses the cause and effect of summer break. The topic of “summer learning loss” is brought into the piece. It is only talked about briefly but is a key in the article. Cepeda says that the only way to prevent students from......

Year in School

... When it comes to year round schooling, many people have debated on whether or not it is the right decision for the students. There is two sides to the argument. One is that summer vacations hurt the children’s learning experience because every year when they come back, they have to re-learn what they have forgotten over the summer. Another side to the argument is that having a summer vacation is essential to growing up. School systems and communities have come up with many different options, and by the end of this paper you can decided which would best suit you. Through research we have found that since back in the 1800’s they have handled schooling in many different ways. Back then schools lacked a long summer vacation we are used to today. Their schooling was handled by them going to school from December to March, have a break, and then return mid-May to August. Other schools in this era had children from working families attend an eleven month school year, it served as a safe and inexpensive place for them to be. Since the 1900’s school districts around the country have offered a longer school year, involving shorter spread out vacations. As opposed to our system now, schooling around the world differs from ours here in America. They are not used to a short school year followed by a long vacation. Instead, children in countries such as Europe, Asia, and South America go to school more days per year, as well as more hours per day. On one side of the debate there is the......

Surving Parents Middle School

...Surviving Your Parents’ Middle Age COMM 1007 AMAN WALIA OLGA PONICHTERA November.12, 2012 The relationships that teenagers experience with their parents will affect them in their future lives. These relationships bring about happiness, sadness, and even depression. Teens should try to build healthy, trusting relationships with their parents and they should be more understanding towards their decisions. Getting along with their parents will make life a whole lot easier, and will keep the peace in the house. During adolescence, teens tend to apart and become distant from their parents and begin to spend much more time with their boyfriend/girlfriend or just friends in general. Although parents will not understand that this is a normal thing, you have continue to understand it’s something new for them and will take time for them to adapt. To maintain a good, personal relationship you must build a relationship where you are comfortable and able to tell them everything and not fight if they do not understand what you are doing. It is important to maintain a healthy relationship with your parents because they will be more understanding towards the decisions you make. If you guys do not agree on something, it is key to talk in a tone in which they can understand what you are trying to say and its important to remember you will not always get your way and sometimes it is necessary to back down and respect there decision. Secondly, gaining trust is a necessary, if you......

School Year

...9th grade school year The 2012-2013 year was fun and educational. Even though some of the classes were hard, I still managed to pass it. I love learning new things and have fun in class and meeting new people every day and make new friends. In English, the teacher helped us prep for the GRAD TEST, which was very smart. While prepping for the GRAD TEST I gained some new knowledge like how to make the essay sound very interesting. I was very excited seeing my score that I got from the practice essay since the teacher grade the same like how the GRAD TEST will be graded. However, the history day essay was very fun, too. It was fun because I got to research about the topic that I picked and I picked “Birth Control”, which was a very interesting topic. Some of the information that I learn from “Birth Control” while I was researching was that between 1910 and 1915, 300,000 women died in childbirth. That’s more than all of the men who died in the U.S. wars from the Revolution to World War 1. History day essay was also fun because I get to use the information that I had research on “Birth Control” onto my essay that I am writing. In French, the teacher was very good at teaching because he is very easy going and I understand everything he is teaching. Another thing about my French teacher is that he is very nice and he gives out candy to his students. Also learning different languages gives us more knowledge on the culture and also improves our communication skills with others......

Year Round School

...Is year-round school a good fit for students? Before making a decision, the pros and cons of this educational system need to be reviewed. Students who go to a year-round school go to class the same number of days as kids on a conventional school plan. What’s the difference? A year-round school timetable is spread out more evenly throughout the year. “The traditional calendar is divided into nine months of instruction and three of vacation during the summer. Year-round calendars break these long instructional/ vacation blocks into a pattern of sixty days of instruction followed by twenty days of vacation.” (CA Dept of Education). Students who receive more frequent breaks don't receive a customary ten to twelve-week summer break. Removing any kind of long break from school can enhance a child’s educational accomplishment. Long summers are known for "summer slide," or the decay of cerebral abilities and loss of information throughout the longer break. Summer-slide is different across grade levels, subject matter and family income, according to the National Summer Learning Association. However, it still affects all children in some way. If a student does not have a long break, it helps prevent summer learning loss. Summer learning loss is a significant issue for children. All children – rich or poor - experience a slide in math over the summer. The slide is different for everyone. Despite the fact that it may appear fun, an extended summer break can frequently prompt......

Angel in Middle School

...An Angel in Middle school When people mention the word “angel”, they are capitalized may imagine a beautiful one that is very pure, warm and helpful. People might also say that if she is unreal and abstract that they don’t exist. I agreed with their opinion until I entered middle school and met an angel. I entered middle school when I was twelve. I didn’t know everything except playing games like in primary school. For example, every morning I got up and then washed my face and brushed my teeth, but never cared about my ugly hair style, which was short and smooth almost like as a monk. I didn’t care about my appearance and my uniform which always wrinkled. In a word, I was a mess, and I looked terrible. The first day I came to class, I was almost late. There was no chair for me to sit on, so I had to take one from other classroom. After I moved the chair to my classroom and put it down, someone giggled. I looked at her and then I was shocked. She was so beautiful with a warm smile, and she would be my deskmate for the next three years. I didn’t know the feeling when I looked at her, but I know it already now. It is love, I have a blind love to her at first sight. She started becoming the first important person in my life. After that, I behaved like a gentleman. I improved my hairstyle and combed it every morning. My clothes would be spread out before I got it up. Everything was improving exterior. However, I became shy when I sat beside her. I especially avoided eye......
