Battle For Your Mind (3 of 8)
Series: The Battle Is The Lord's
Dr. Stan Coffey
II Corinthians 10:3-5

I. SATAN'S DESIRE
II. SATAN'S DEVICES
III. SATAN'S DOORS
IV. SATAN'S DEFEAT

It is good to see you. If you have a copy of the word of God, I want you to take God's word and turn to Second Corinthians Chapter 10 and tonight we want to continue to think about the battle is the Lord's. We are thinking about spiritual warfare.

I don't know about you but I am in a battle. Amen? I suspect you are too if you are a believer. Somebody said if you hadn't met the devil, you are probably going the same direction he is. Amen?

So if you are going toward God, you are going to have the devil try to stand between you and God and not the devil literally but demonic influence, demons.

We studied last seek how to overcome the devil and we spoke about that and we spoke about how Jesus had vanquished the devil. The devil has been vanquished but the devil has not been banished. That is, the Bible says that God now has given us authority over him and power over him but he is not yet in the lake of fire.

There is no need for any believer to be defeated by Satan because the Bible says we have been given the victory, the victory has been won and we don't fight for victory, we fight from victory. But nevertheless, we are still in a battle.

Now look at Second Corinthians 10 and verse 3, "FOR THOUGH WE WALK IN THE FLESH, WE DO NOT WAR AFTER THE FLESH. (FOR THE WEAPONS OF OUR WARFARE ARE NOT CARNAL, BUT MIGHTY THROUGH GOD TO THE PULLING DOWN OF STRONG HOLDS)

CASTING DOWN IMAGINATIONS, AND EVERY HIGH THING THAT EXALTETH ITSELF AGAINST THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD, AND BRINGINGINTO CAPTIVITY EVERY THOUGH TO THE OBEDIENCE OF CHRIST."

Now the picture here is that of your mind and your mind is likened unto a trophy over which there is a great struggle. God is struggling for your…...

Media Controls Your Mind

...look at it, the mass media occurs in a person’s life on a daily basis. Which has a severe effect on the choices you make and the morals you live by. One cannot trust everything they see on TV either. Most commercials you would see today are overly exaggerated just to persuade consumers into buying the product. For example, in the 1930’s America’s first “drug czar” Harry J. Anslinger, began one of the world’s greatest public relations campaigns just to demoralize marijuana by telling apparent lies to society and persuading them to believe it. Such as that marijuana is more harmful to the body than alcohol, and tobacco. 70 years later people still believe the lies even after decades of scientific proof. Seeing as how media can “control your mind” we as a whole need to be more aware of it on a daily basis. The mass media has a responsibility to use only truthful explanations as opposed to exaggeration when arguing against the legalization of marijuana. The campaigns that Anslinger participated in consisted of many movies, musicals, and advertisements all demoralizing the usage, and or the distribution of marijuana. The promotion of marijuana making you insane was his main theme throughout his claims. Every single one of his claims missed some very important facts that make them obviously false. Studies over the years has proved that marijuana is less dangerous than alcohol or tobacco, and it is not a “gateway drug” leading to the usage of other drugs. Harry tried to promote......

Television and Your Childs Mind

...Theo 104 | Television and Your Child’s Mind | Advertisement on Youths | | Latonya Jones | 11/25/2013 | Advertisements that are not suitable for youths can affect their minds because they can pick up bad habits from seeing something on television that they are too young to see. We are too familiar with the saying “TV Can Rot a Child’s Mind.” But as long as we as parents do our jobs as monitors of what our children are watching this wouldn’t have to be an issue. Before us as responsible parents decide to sit our children in front of a television set we should ask ourselves this very important question, which is how much t.v is too much t.v for our children? The reason why this question should be given some thought is because television can affect a child’s mind in a way that could be negative or positive. What we most definitely do not want is a negative affect which results in long lasting to damage to your child or children’s development. For the most part in the early stages of a child’s development they are primarily visually stimulated and will be learning pretty much everything from what they see. So to be aware of what and how much your child or children are taking in is a number one priority. Another thing that I would suggest, being a parent of two is setting time limits like an hour or two a day of television daily. Nowadays there are so many different kinds of t.v programs for your children to watch that are suitable for them, for example “My......

Mind Your Language

...Essay - Chachau Bant: Mind Your Language Our language is a very big part of us, whether you are Spanish, Danish or English you can be proud of your languages. Every language have a lot of heritage, your parents taught it to you, like it was taught to them by their parents. But not everyone can feel proud, or at least can be sure, that they will get the chance to teach their language on to their children. This is one of the main themes in Tom Law’s article “Chachau Bant: Mind Your Language” from the sabotage times from 2013. In his article Law writes about how the English have completely smothered the Welsh language. In his article, Tom Law starts his article by telling the reader, the English speaker, that they do not understand the following problem: “it’s hard to give a toss about language when you’re an English speaker” (p. 1, ll. 1-2), but afterwards he tries to explains it, but with a little twist. Law sets up a scenario for the English speakers, where he starts out by letting the German take control of Europe and thereby making German the main language, this causes English to be inconvenient and therefore going extinct. This is Law’s way of explaining how English made the Welsh language a thing of the past. Law therefore uses pathos to make the English people feel what Welsh people have gone through. He gives them a scenario where they are the victims. Law also tells about how the school children got bullied and punished for speaking Welsh in the school,......

The Battle Is for Your Future

...The Battle Is For Your Future Shaborn Vail Genesis 37:5-37:8 “And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more. And he said unto them, Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed: For, Behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf. And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words.” Genesis 37:5-8 Joseph’s brothers already hated him because he was the favorite son of their father. But once Joseph began to talk about his dreams, once he began to talk about his future, their hatred for him increased and they began to question him by asking him “Shalt you indeed reign over us? Shall you indeed have dominion over us?” Josephs brothers were not so concerned about who he was, as a seventeen year old dreamer. Their concern was over who he was going to become. They were not afraid of his present, they were afraid of his future. And they wanted to stop him from becoming who God said he would become and going where God said he would go. They wanted to stop him from entering into his destiny. If there is anything Satan desires to do today it is to keep you from entering into your destiny. He wants to keep you from your future! Satan does not care if you live in your......

Cachau Bant: Mind Your Language

...”Cachau Bant: Mind your own language” is an article written by Tom Law, that appeared on the website Sabotage times, an online magazine that’s meant to create public debate. The article discusses how a country with so much culture and history like Wales can be stripped of their native language, without any furthermore questions. The author aims to prove that the language of a country is what helps to develop and maintain the countries culture, without the language the culture will not remain the same. In addition to that Law manages to discus the reasons behind the eradication of the Welsh language. This essay aims to analyse the reasons behind the use of history in the article through an understanding of the way in which Law draws in his audience through the tone and style used in the article. The topic that Tom Law covers in this article is of most interest to Welsh people, who still haven’t given in to the storm of the English implementation in Wales. He explains how English has become such a dominant language, to be exact the third most common language in the world, and how English speakers do not have to worry about losing their language “It’s hard to give a toss about language when you’re an English speaker. Because losing your language is not something you’ll ever have to worry about; thanks to the British Empire.” Compared to welsh that has slowly been drifting away for 150 years. When considering the fact that the reason behind the eradication of Welsh from the...

Renewing Your Mind

...Kimesha Washington Erin Price Intro to Online Education 7 March 2015 The biblical foundations relate to scripture and the importance of “renewing our minds” in many different ways. Higher education fits that calling because by renewing your mind you start off fresh. Each time a semester begins or another class starts your ability to stay focused, organized, and knowledgeable depends on it. The biblical foundations are a stepping stone for students. By renewing our minds we are able to act as God has instructed us to. A mind that hasn’t been renewed results in wicked actions while one with a “renewed mind” acts in a Godly way. (Roman 12:2) “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” In so little words the scripture does not want us to be a follower in this world but instead act as leader by renewing our minds. By doing so it is God’s will that we act accordingly. Renewing our minds creates a new journey and direction when you may have been going down the wrong one. (Proverbs 1:7) “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instructions.” Act as God has instructed us to do so because those who do not obey his word look down on wisdom and instructions and therefore do not follow his word. (Proverbs 19:27) “Stop listening to instruction, my son, and you will stray from the words of......

Choosing Your Battles

... Ways negotiators can utilize conflict management strategies to their advantage so that differences in interests do not lead to dysfunctional conflicts but rather to positive integrative solutions would be to first be thoroughly trained in the art of mediation and be able to attempting to compromise to resolve the conflict. By compromising each side would give a little and take a little. By arranging a compromise instead of just selecting one member’s interest over the other you can reduce the likelihood that one staff members feel slighted by the way in which the conflict was resolved. The preparation for a successful negotiation would depend on the scale of the disagreement. For larger major disagreements you would need to strengthen your position and plan accordingly. You would need to consider the goals, trades, alternatives, relationships, expected outcomes, the consequences, powers and possible solutions. Once you have established those points you must then ensure that both parties have a positive feeling about the negotiation is over. In an ideal situation, you will find that the other person wants what you are prepared to trade and that you are prepared to give what the other person wants. (Jackson, 2015) During the planning of my mother in law’s 50th birthday party, everyone had their own ideas about who to invite, the menu and the theme of the party. Since I was the new person in the family I did not speak up or protest any ideas. I attempted to suggest a few......

Choosing Your Battles

...regarding office supplies wastes time better spent on other activities. (Dontigney, nd) A fundamental skill of conflict management is to be a good listener. This skill is also necessary for negotiators to use in an effort to understand the person or parties they are negotiating with. Negotiations are about give and take in order to come to an agreement or solution. This cannot be accomplished if the negotiator is blind to the essential needs of the person they are dealing with and will ultimately lead to a dysfunctional conflict. Professor George Kohlrieser cites in his article for the International Institute for Management Development, that there are 6 essential skills for managing conflict: 1. Create and maintain a bond, even with your ‘adversary’. The key in defusing conflict is to form a bond with the other party. It does not mean that the people involved need to like each other, there only need to be a common goal. Leaders need to separate the person from the problem. 2. Establish a dialogue and negotiate. Keeping the conversation focused and relevant in line with the common goal avoid being hostile or aggressive. Next is negotiating. Talking, dialogue and negotiation create a genuine, engaging and productive two way transaction. 3. “Put the fish on the table”. This analogy comes from Siciliy where the fishermen, who are strongly bonded, put their bloody catch on a large table to cleanit together. They work through the messy job and are rewarded by a......

Mind Your Language Essay

...Cachau Bant: Mind Your Language Back in the days when the British Empire ruled, the English language spread all across the world forcing a lot of people to take upon English if they wanted better in life. Because of English being one of the most dominant languages in the world, a lot of native languages were lost a long the way - one of those languages being Welsh. Why and how this happened to particular Welsh is what Tom Law discusses in his article Cachau Bant: Mind Your Language from 2013. In this article Tom Law accuses the British Empire for being the cause of the people living in Wales and speaking Welsh dropping drastically during the last couple of 100 years. The cause of this being that England took over the Welsh school system and made teaching English a first priority and Welsh was being taught like German or French is taught in schools nowadays. "[Welsh] was treated the same as any other foreign language – like French or German. It gave you tourist Welsh – enough to ask directions to the nearest zoo in Colwyn Bay – and not much else.” Frustrated with how people today react when hearing about the Welsh losing their native language, Law makes up a fictional scenario where everybody speaks German instead of English. The people who still speak English are considered as being dumb or poor, and with no job prospects if you cannot speak German. Law does admit that this is a rather drastic example, “Now this all sounds absolutely nuts (…) But this is what has happened......

Choose Your Battles Wisely

...Choose your Battles Wisely My son Brandon loves to laugh, talk to people, and more than anything he loves to help others. For many people in Brandon's life, these great attributes were difficult to identify when Brandon was in pre-school through about the 6th grade. Typical children can follow simple orders, communicate with children their own age and demonstrate self-control. In Brandon's case, he had trouble figuring out how to communicate with his peers and it was difficult for him to express his thoughts verbally and in writing. Brandon also struggled with self-control. When he was expected to sit still in class, he would fidget, touch things, speak out of turn and have emotional outbursts. I realized early on that "sorry" was the most common word spoken by Brandon as he was constantly apologizing for not following simple directions. I didn’t fully understand how severe his behavior was until he was in the second grade. At the time, he was enrolled at Ridge Lawn School and I was asked to attend a meeting with a social worker, Brandon’s teacher, principal, and the school nurse. At the meeting, I was informed by this group they believed Brandon was suffering from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and needed medication. Initially, I was upset and baffled. My heart sank at the thought of my son’s actions being controlled by pills. They asked me to complete a questionnaire about Brandon’s behavior at home and after they had assessed Brandon’s......

Training Your Creative Mind

...How to Train Your Creative Mind As Louis Pasteur once famously said, “Chance favors only the prepared mind.” To be an innovative entrepreneur, you want to foster creativity in your daily life so that your mind is ready when opportunity arises. “Creative ideas often come from unusual combinations,” explains Steven Smith, professor of cognitive psychology at Texas A&M University. “The best solution is not going to be the thing everyone thinks of. It’s going to be something unusual.” These unusual combinations, called “remote associations,” are related ideas that may seem unrelated at first glance. They are the essence of creative thinking. To cultivate creativity, you want to increase your chances of stumbling on an unexpected link. Here are four strategies you can use in your everyday life that will train your mind to be more creative in business: 1. Shake up your routine. To expand your creative horizons, surround yourself with a broad range of perspectives and experiences. A diverse workplace is helpful, but it isn’t enough. Outside work, seek variety in what you eat, where you hang out, the types of art you look at, the places you travel, or the books you read. “Diversity introduces all kinds of new stimuli,” Smith says. “It opens you up to a number of new possibilities.” You are more likely to find an unusual solution when you have more options at your fingertips. 2. Cast a wide net for feedback. We often discuss important ideas with the same......
