Cummins Inc., is a world leader in manufacturing, designing, servicing, and selling diesel engines and diesel technologies around the globe. Cummins works with its customers through a distribution network of both company owned and independent distributors. Clessie Lyle Cummins built his first steam engine in rural Indiana. With the backing of banker William G. Irwin in the year 1919, Clessie founded the Cummins engine Company in Columbus Indiana. These men together built the first company that would take advantage of the technology developed by the German Engineer Rudolf Diesel from the late 1800’s and Cummins is still thriving today.
Cummins Inc. has three overarching business objectives: 1.) Achieve Financial target over the quarters. To succeed and grow into the future, we must demonstrate performance by consistently meeting or succeeding our financial targets. 2.) Be the first choice of customers. Cummins success depends solely on our customers. As we succeed in our ability to help them, they will view Cummins as a partner in their success and we will then become their first choice in our competitive market place. 3.) Be a great place to work. The ability of Cummins Inc. to achieve these objectives is based on our workforce. Cummins Inc. must be able to attract, develop and retain the skills need to pursue the first two objectives.

...My Leadership Practices and Future C200 Managing Organizations and Leading People September 19th, 2014 My Leadership Practices and Future This following will outline my personal leadership practices and potential future leadership. To analyze my leadership qualities I will use the Seven Habits Profile and a leadership theory to determine my strengths, weaknesses, and areas of opportunity for improvement. In conclusion, I will determine the best recommendations for long-term improvement as well as SMART goals, or short-term courses of action, for leadership improvement. Seven Habits Profile The Seven Habits Profile revealed that I rank as outstanding in two categories, very good in six categories, and good in just one category. This seems to highlight what I am most exemplary at in terms of leadership, what I am just proficient at, and what presents itself as an opportunity for improvement. The main two strengths include having a work-life balance and being a proactive problem solver. An area of opportunity as indicated by the profile would be having the ability to synergize which is a combination of seeking the views of others and making creative decisions. The two strengths point to qualities I have constantly tried to improve upon. Earlier in my career, I was a bit of a workaholic and tended to bring work home with me. This resulted in a dismal personal life which eventually permeated negativity into my professional life as well. In light......

...A Research Paper on Wal-Mart Management, Leadership and Organizational Culture I.  Differentiate Between Management and Leadership At Wal-Mart, management is a mixture of controls and standards with a certain degree of freedom for everyone to be able to test on new things and continue to innovate for improvement. The company has excellent controls and they make the company good.  Management strategy is built on teams and the leaders go through the process of working with their team members.  Leaders go with the group and after every major operation, they all sit down together to analyze the strengths and improve on the weaknesses of the endeavor.    Sam Walton, founder of Wal-Mart, introduced some of the basic concepts of management which were popular with employees until the present.  He offered stock options and store discounts to his employees.  Walton believed that teams will always do better than individuals hence; he has always tried his best to make his employees happy since happy employees make happy customers and more sales.   Another reason is that he believes that the employees would care about the company more when they are a part of it and their success is dependent on the company's success.  At Wal-Mart, management encourages their employees to be open to talk and air out their concerns and problems.  This is what they call the "open door policy" management style.   "Leadership is an organizational role involving establishing a clear vision,......

...As learned through the textbook and other references for this course the management theories and practices utilized within an organization can help or hinder the success of said organization. Through this paper I will review the strengths and weaknesses of American Healthcare Corporation’s (AHC) IT&S Southern Division as well as critique their primary leader. AHC’s IT&S Southern Division AHC is a large for-profit national healthcare provider network owning and managing over 150 hospitals, 40 surgery centers and hundreds of physician practices across the continental United States. AHC’s primary goal is to provide industry-leading healthcare in the most efficient and cost effective manner with the highest level of patient outcomes and satisfaction. AHC’s history spans over 40 years and was founded by doctors who wanted a better care path for their patients. AHC is comprised of several divisions broken down regionally across the nation and has also broken down key “shared services” departments to service and support the divisions. My analysis will focus on the IT&S Southern Division of AHC. IT&S Southern Division is responsible for the technical support and services of 24 hospitals, 10 surgery centers and 110 physician practices across Alabama, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. The services provided span the information technology gamut including infrastructure, clinical applications support, physician support, project management and a 24 hour help desk. To enable......

...Final Essay General Studies Capstone Before I started at UCO, I completed courses at both Oklahoma City Community College and OSU-OKC. My very first semester of college was at OCCC where I was straight out of high school. I finished high school online, so starting over and going to class was a learning curve for me. I was very anxious and shy starting out. I remember the first day of class, it was Intro to Psychology, and before going into class I cried in my car for twenty minutes because I was so nervous. I thought college would be an extension of high school and that I didn’t want to go through again. Once I talked myself into going to class, the first hour I did not remember. However, I quickly realized that college is nothing like high school. The professors are nice, but honestly they are not there to babysit so they didn’t enforce rules but when you did something they didn’t care for they just made you leave. I loved that part, I always felt more mature than the people of the same age because I had two sisters that were 10 years older than me, therefore I was forced to grow up and be mature at a very young age. So having ‘no tolerance’ professors was something I truly liked. Once the first class ended, I had already made a couple new friends. Some of which I still am very close with to this day. I stayed at OCCC for one semester before transferring on to OSU-OKC to pursue my Associates Degree in Echocardiography, (Cardiac Sonography). I remained in this......

...Geisinger Health Plan, Past and Present Geisinger Health Plan (GHP) is a rural, non-profit health plan in central Pennsylvania. They have been offering health insurance to the public since 1982. GHP has a long history of top notch customer service as well as a close relationship with its parent corporation, Geisinger Health System. This allows GHP to offer ‘sweet spot’ services, such as combined medical management services from both plan and practitioner. This approach keeps members feeling they get the best value for their dollar, it keeps the members healthy, and ultimately happy with the customer service they receive. As with Blue Cross and Blue Shield, GHP started its operation as merely a way to provide health insurance to physicians and staff of Geisinger Health System. Within a few years, however, the little health plan grew and the potential of opening GHP to the public was shortly realized. Dr. Howard Hughes was an emergency medicine physician and was then at the helm of the company. He fostered a family friendly environment, and quickly took GHP from private to public. During the beginning of his tenure, the employees of GHP rose from around 50 to 500. Dr. Hughes became Executive Vice President of GHP in the 90s and GHP continued to grow. Under Dr. Hughes’ management, the plan busted the seams with 250,000 members and over 1000 employees. However, in early 2000, Dr. Hughes fell ill and resigned. The building that was built for GHP employees was......

...Self-Assessment of Leadership Practices While writing this paper, I lost my job as a Mine Operations Coordinator, and before I was notified of being officially laid off, my job was already on edge of being around for another month. The mining project I worked for had questionable growth for within the company and interests in supplying funding for future advancement of the project became a difficult battle. With impending layoffs, miners began to work slower and were more focused on what their next career step would be rather than what was the necessary daily tasks. This in turn effected how I could properly maintain productivity and mining advancements for the project, and with the impending layoff how to properly distribute my tasks and projects to coworkers who would remain with the company after the layoffs. My understanding of who I was as an up and coming leader became a struggle with the idea that I would be unemployed very soon. I gained a better understanding of my strengths and weaknesses, along with what areas I should work on. Seven Habits Profile and Findings After completing Franklin Covey’s Seven Habits of Highly Effective People and associated profile, I came to understand a bit more about myself and how I evaluate business practices. The profile showed that close to “Very Good” on every category with my lowest categories were Life Balance, Put First Things First, Synergize and Sharpen the Saw. I can see why these would be my lowest categories. My......

...TASK 2: ORGANIZATION AND LEADERSHIP ANALYSIS WESTERN GOVERNORS UNIVERSITY Table of Contents Reflection on Seven Habits Profile2 Personal Leadership Strengths3 Personal Leadership Weaknesses5 Recommendation for Personal Leadership6 SMART Goals7 Specific Actions7 References9 Organization and Leadership Analysis Reflection on Seven Habits Profile I believe that the results after completing the seven habits profile prove that my transactional leadership style is intrinsic to my natural self. Simply put, transactional leaders work within the culture that exists and exert energy on the things within their power to control (Biscontini, 2015). My scores in each of the seven habits can directly relate to characteristics of a transactional leader. First, Category 3 of the profile, is a clear example. I have a high internal locus of control and know I have the ability to change my environment when necessary to achieve my own desired outcomes. Transactional leaders are very results-driven (Bass, 1990). In order to achieve such outcomes, I begin with the end in mind by not putting off tasks, adhering to a schedule, and also by setting up my next week on the Friday before. In relation to work tasks, I find that I am disciplined and do not let the truly important things get lost in the shuffle. However, in relation to my personal life, I struggle with balancing the importance of living a long and healthy life with the importance of living an enjoyable......

...Task 2: Self-Assessment of Leadership Practices Assessment Code: C200 Student Name: Shery Marson Student ID: # 000000000 Date: April 27, 2016 Self-Assessment of Leadership Practices Leadership is defined as the ability to influence people towards attaining their goals. The objective of my study is to assess myself on my leadership practices as I interact with others as we work towards attaining organizational goals and making the company I work for more successful both now and in the future. If leadership is the influence of one person over others to aid and to support their role in order to achieve the combined purpose, then it is my desire to become that type of leader. Leadership is not a role or a position but can be summed up as an act of achieving the tasks assigned. The whole situation of success and failure is determined by the role the leader plays. It has been said if you are the source of inspiration or the force that drives others then you are the path to the top of the ladder and you are their leader. Leadership I believe is the heart and soul of an organization. Do I have the right style and qualities to inspire and mold others and inspire them to be the best they can be as they perform their jobs? By a study of my strengths and weakness and taking the Seven Habits profile I will be able to find out more about my leadership abilities. It is my desire to be a leader that will empower others by encouragement, providing them the right tools, to......
