Rough Draft
Introduction-
The reason that I chose this topic in homeland security is for the fact that I believe has an essential meaning and importance to all of us living in the United States. The department of homeland security has the duty of protect our home land from anything and anyone. This might include terrorist attacks and such. Many of us don’t even know what the purpose of the Department of Homeland Security is for, or what does it do and what does it protect. My priority is to leave that very clear to everyone and why will we always need this department in place no matter the ups and downs of our economy. It is very essential to have such department in place for the fact that we need to protect our land from any illegal activity or an attack to our people, we can’t afford another attack like the 9/11 one. A country with the guidelines and boundaries well organized, ordered, and secure will always guarantee a well front-line force. Unfortunately, people within our nation don’t like to keep our nation safe nor secure, there are many individuals that have murder a lot of people within our nation. The saddest part is that they are Americans as well as the people they murder, hurt, etc.

Cjs 200 Final Paper Juveniles

...UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX CJS 200 Crime is not only an issue within the United States, but across the world. Every country, state, region, and county may handle crime differently. Even though crimes may be handled somewhat differently depending on your geographical location they all face the same battle. This battle is ever going and leaves law enforcement asking how do I stop this crime from happening again? Like most problem they begin as acute, but eventually turn into something much bigger and become ongoing. The juvenile court system has been developed to handle crimes within juveniles and develop a system to help combat crimes from its lowest and earliest stage. Juvenile crime rate is on the rise and more and more violent crimes are happening daily within juvenile’s Society today is shaping children and young adults into accepting violence as the “norm” and is allowing children to think it is acceptable to commit these crimes daily. Recently the “knock out” game swept across the country. These was a “game” played by young adults and juveniles where they targeted defenseless individuals walking the streets and would sneak up on them and strike them in the face. The goal of this so-called “game” was to knock the person unconscious with one strike to the head or face area. This alone tells me that there is a problem with violence among young adults today. Crimes like this happen daily and the popularity of violent......

Cjs Final Project

...Final Project: Fiction versus Reality CJS/220 May 7, 2011 Timothy Hanson There are many aspects of a working courtroom, and each aspect has a special value that it adds to justice proceedings. However, the courtroom proceedings seen in movies, or on television, are rarely the same as what. The reality of what happens in a courtroom has been completely sensationalized to make it more exciting. The complexity of what takes place in real life courtrooms has remained consistent throughout the years. Looking at the novelty of fictional drama and comparing that to what takes place in a traditional courtroom will show the differences, if any. Take into consideration the movie, “My Cousin Vinny.” This movie is mostly held in a courtroom. Included are the judge, the prosecution and defense attorneys, the jury, the bailiff, court recorder, witnesses, even an audience included in the scenes and processes of the case. While in a completely fictional movie, the roles and actions of each individual seem to be indicative of reality. Keeping in mind that there has been a major amount of comedic properties added to the characters of the movie to make it more entertaining, the true roles of the characters stayed very true to reality. The defense and prosecuting attorneys exchange information during discovery, and interviewing witnesses. Also involved, are the examinations and cross examinations done by the attorneys are very comparable to reality. Then there is the......

Cjs/220 Final

...Assignment: Final Project: Appeals Process Paper Tony Thomas CJS/220 Jerri Mauldin August 21, 2011 An appeal is when a person who is convicted of a crime or is told they can’t do a certain thing and the person submits questions in writing why this decision was made and wants the verdict and the case to be looked at another time. Most causes for an appeal is from people thinking they are innocent or have the right to do what they want where they want to do it. The way an appeals process can affect the overall criminal procedures or process is if the appeal gets looked at and the ruling from the previous judgment gets overturned. The reason the system is affected is it can set an innocent man free or let whoever continue on doing what they want to do. If someone is put in jail or prison for a crime they didn’t commit and they send up an appeal and it gets the ruling reversed it can mean that the case would be reopened because the person who actually committed the crime is still on the loose. It also interrupts the process of the system because everything that has been put in writing saying that this person was guilty has now got to be withdrawn from record. It also means that the person who is behind bars goes free. A good way to improve the appeals process is not letting them sit so long before being looked at. This is a big problem in some states and needs to be corrected. Even though forensic science has brought a lot of people to the surface that we......
