I. Introduction A. Attention Getter: Have you ever had those dreams whereas you are plummeting towards the earth and right before you hit the ground your physical body drops and you are jolted awake as if it had been real? Many would say that having a dream like that would inquire a subconscious fear of failure in your waking life, or that something in your life is rapidly heading in a wrong direction. B. Relevance: Being college students, I know most of us go to bed every night and/or during the day and, many times have I woken up thinking “Wow, I just had the weirdest dream” but, you never think to ask the question why did I dream that. Throughout my high school career I kept a dream journal and every time I had a dream I would write it down and do some research on the internet about what it meant. According to Carl Jung, a famous psychologist who mentored Sigmond Freud, He believed that dreams were the “window into the unconscious mind”. C. Credibility: I have been interested in dreams for several years now. I took my first psychology class last year in the spring. however, I have had an interest in it before. It had all started when I woke up from a nightmare and I could not help but wonder, why was I so upset or unable to reach what I wanted? Its a dream, Why can I not control it? I looked it up online to find not only a few meanings of dreams, but a dictionary filled with them. D. Thesis: In order to understand the issues in our waking life we must first analyze our subconscious messages throughout our dreams in order solve problems and work towards a better well-being. E. Preview: Therefore, to understand dreams I…...

Dreams: Informative Speech

...Thesis Statement: Understanding how dreams occur, how they affect our lives and what they mean help us grasp what dreams actually are. Intro: I. (Attention Getter) Have you ever dreamt that you were walking along the side of a road or along a cliff and suddenly you trip? You’re falling for what seems like forever, but before hitting the ground, you wake up? This is considered to be a falling dream, and ironically, falling dreams occur when you are falling asleep. They are usually accompanied by muscle spasms and twitches of the entire body. Although these dreams occur while we are falling asleep, they interpret a completely different meaning. Falling can mean you are insecure, you are losing grip, or you simply have fears that need to be faced. Patricia Garfield, the author of Creative Dreaming states: “there is some problem that is making you feel helpless like you have no support, so next time when you wake up startled from a falling dream, ask yourself what upcoming events do I fear I will fail?” II. (Introduce Topic) Since the beginning of time, people have been trying to understand the different functions of the human body, how we move, talk, and even act. Many of these physiological behaviors have been explained to some extent. However, one area of the human body that has baffled researchers, is that of the mind. Many things that go on inside the mind that don’t make sense, and serves no real explanation as to why or how things happen. One of the most fascinating...

...Informative Speech Introduction 1. In the contemporary world, underage drinking has become a global phenomenon especially in the developed countries such as in the US. As a result, the Oklahoma State has taken various measures to curb the vice. This is the reason behind the enactment of the Underage drinking laws-Social Host Law. The law was enacted in order to; a) Minimize the circumstances that lead to death of a minor or suffering physical injuries b) To enhance concentration at school especially for the minors c) To make societies responsible for their young people and develop virtues that would lead to productive work in future d) Promote healthy social life Body (Translation: I will begin by outlining the aspect of underage drinking, Oklahoma’s Social Host law and specifically where Cody’s law emanated from) 1. Consumption of alcohol by the young people in the US is prohibited especially for people who are below 21 years. However, despite the minimum age that is set for people who buy alcohol being 21 years in all the states, the legal requirements varies significantly. For instance: a) Wagenaar and Melvin argue that some states have exceptions whereby they allow some individuals who are below 21 years to consume alcohol (37). This indicates that the laws are not uniformly implemented across the states. b) In Ohio State, the social host law has not been limited to the drinking parties by the underage. Therefore any action that is undertaken by an underage......

...COMM 10- Elements of Public Speaking Master Make-up Artistry (Informative Speech) Specific Purpose Statement: To inform my audience about the three major types of make-up needed to be a master make-up artist. Central Idea: High Fashion, Character and Prosthetic/Special effects make-up are all skills required in order to be considered a master make-up artist in the industry. Introduction When I was about 3 or 4, I remember watching my mom put on her make up and being completely fascinated by it. Well being the curious little kid that I was, I decided to be exactly like mommy and do what she did. Bad idea! I ended up in the emergency room because I had super glued by eyelashes together. Needless to say, my first experience with “make-up” was not what I’d call great. Since then though, I have grown to love make-up and so I started to wonder what makes someone a master of makeup. Body I. High fashion make-up is the foundation or rather the basics of all three make-up types. A. It’s used to identify a person’s skin type, bone structure, eyebrow and face shape. 1. Identifying all these factors into helping determine what products to use on an individual. B. Its application is solely for beauty purposes. 1. You mostly see this kind of make-up done in editorial spreads in magazines, on television, in films or on the runway. II. Character make-up is to help define and develop the characteristics needed for a certain role. A. This process helps......

...COMM 100-06 Informative Speech Outline Title: MEDIA AND YOU Speaker: Specific Purpose: At the end of my speech, the audience will be able to take steps to ensure they and their loved ones are using social networking sites to their full advantage. Central Idea: Time is money and a huge aspect in our lives which we cannot rewind so we must use it wisely and efficiently especially in regards to the time spent on social networking sites to have a positive impact on our lives. Introduction: According to the Nielsen Company survey back in August 2009 social networking and blogging sites accounted for 17% (about one in every six minutes) of all time spent on the internet. That statistic is three years old, as of today that percentage has increased rapidly due to the almost one billion members on Facebook alone, while Twitter is growing at an increasing rate. In the wise words of the great Jim Morrison “Whoever controls the media, controls the mind,” are extremely valid because everything we talk about in our daily lives has been influenced by another person whether it be reading a newspaper, listening to the radio, or watching television. In the ensuing few minutes I will be discussing the positives, and negatives of social networking while also how we can incorporate the benefits into our lives to make social networking a huge advantage in our lives. Body: I. Disadvantages of Social Networking A. Privacy Issues 1) Stalkers and complete strangers can view......

...Ma. Sarah Katrina F. Santos June 16, 2014 11229888 SPEECOM - C32 Informative Speech How many of you thinks that having more customers is better than having fewer customers for a business? Can I see a show of hands? Alright. I presume that for those who said yes, which is the majority, raised their hand for the same reason. More customers mean more people buying and more people buying mean more profits for the company, isn’t it? Sounds sensible but I hate to break it to you but those of you who said yes are wrong. Today I will transform that thinking to exactly the opposite. I will introduce based on a new study the idea of ‘less is more’. Focusing on a smaller number of customers could help a company speed up growth, increase profit and improve long-term health. I am going to talk about how top companies gain customers, how they keep them and how these customers help them in expanding their business. They don’t need a lot of customers, just the right ones to keep them on top. First point is, fewer customers can speed up the company’s growth. Would you believe that some companies actually go out of business because of too many customers? Yes, that is true. The problem with these companies is they get very overwhelmed with the influx of customers that they forget to establish a connection with their customers. According to Forbes, this is one of the top 5 reasons why 8 out of 10 businesses fail - because they are not really in touch with their......
