Effectiveness of MIS at Big Bazaar
Introduction
Retail industry in India currently is at an all-time high. Over the last one decade, it has seen a steady growth in the market. From having a market size of $238 billion in 2004, it reached $518 billion in 2012 [IBEF, 2014]. With over 1.2 billion people in India, it has become one of the fast growing countries for retail markets to flourish in. Retailing has become one of the strong pillars of our economy as it accounts for 22 percent of India’s GDP and contributes to about 8 percent of total employment in our nation [FICCI]. Organized retail industry in India is bound to grow by leaps and bounds. This growth is driven by rapid changes in the sector, especially due to advanced technological improvements, consumers’ purchasing pattern and a market that supports healthy competition.

What is MIS? Management Information Systems (MIS) is a system that utilizes the information that it gathered from both Internal and External sources of an organization. It then processes this data and supplies the information to the Management who assist them in decision making. These decisions could vary from replenishing the inventory to improving a particular product. MIS highlights the relationship between people, process, technology, and the organization.
MIS plays a crucial role in the growth and development of retail industry. It assists by providing real-time and accurate information that is integrated across several databases and systems. The ulterior motive is to aid in the decision-making process. It enables the retailer to communicate with his suppliers as well as the consumers. MIS in retail includes Customer Support, Inventory Management, and Financial Management System that includes Receivables, Payables, Income and Expenditure. ...I Got….Myocardial Infarction 1. My initial response was to laugh because it is not a diagnosis that I thought I would ever hear. I am very slender and athletic and my cholesterol levels are all well under control. I do know that to get to the point of an MI, means that I more than likely have arteries full of plaque which ultimately leads to a sudden and extended obstruction of blood supple to myocardial tissue. My brain is already spinning in curiosity of the severity of ischemia in my left ventricle. What is even more scary to me, as a woman, is the higher risk of silent ischemia in women. Silent ischemia doesn’t produce any symptoms when the heart experiences ischemic events. So I guess after the shock wears off, that is when the “oh shit” moment is about to happen. 2. Myocardial Infarction(MI) is also known as a heart attack. MI results when the flow of oxygen rich blood to a myocardium suddenly becomes blocked. If blood flow is not restored quickly, this results in cellular death by necrosis or apoptosis. Acute MI is an important form of Coronary Heart Disease (CHD). MI can occur at any age, but the risk of frequency raises with age progression. It is estimated that MI causes more than 150,000 deaths annually in the US. The American male has a greater than 1 in 5 chance of sustaining an MI or fatal ischemic event before the age of 65. Organizing information I noted from the chapter that “organized information is easier to find” especially if you are selective about the information, organize it in a specific way to make it easier to locate and to remember, and associate it with related information. For example, in my personal life, this strategy would be useful for sorting and saving important emails whether at home or at work. There are times when my inbox is full of information - inspirational, motivational, tips, and up-coming events. At work, information on new banking policies and procedures or product launches are all usually filtered down via email. It is sometimes difficult to refer to the information quickly when you can’t remember when the email was sent or who sent it. Since reading this chapter, I have started to save specific email information as word documents grouped under different folders. This has proven to be effective for linking related topics in the respective folders which makes locating the information quicker. In my academic life, I will first note the topic to be studied and pay greater attention to the learning objectives. This would then make it easier to skim through the chapter and specifically note the more important material and review that first as well as to research any related topics by using other resources.
