The best advice he can give is to develop sound study skills. He said that a student should make sure that he/she has a good study environment, a good desk, a sturdy chair, good light, comfortable room temperature and a quiet atmosphere. That means he/she should eliminate all external and internal distractions. Second, get a good overview of the assignment before starting the work. Austria, Limuel Gabuco, Shaira C. Lumalang, Johnlinne U. Macalalad, Princes Rose R. GE- 2118 September 2013 Chapter I Introduction A. Background of the Study Did you ever stop to wonder what sets apart the really successful students from the average ones? Why do some students who appear to study all the time just get by, while others who don’t appear to put in as much time and effort do well? Is it all related to IQ or are some other factors involved? The truth is that success in school is not so much determined by sheer intelligence as knowing how to study. Studying is a skill. Being successful in school requires a high level of study skills. Students must first learn these skills, practice them and develop effective study habits in order to be successful. Very often the study habits and practices developed and used in high school do not work for students in college. Good study habits include many different skills: time management, self-discipline, concentration, memorization, organization, and effort. Desire to succeed is important, too. Study habits are the ways that you study the habits that you have formed during your school years. Study habits can be good ones or bad ones. Good study habits include......

...CHAPTER II REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE                 The review of related literature of this study identifies how fear and interest, together with the students’ study habits can affect their performance in various subject matters, specifically, mathematics.         To begin this chapter, the researchers will define the variables involved in the study, namely, fear and its types, interest, study habits and mathematics. The researchers will also examine other research studies and articles that show how these variables are related. This chapter ends with the summary of literature review.         Mathematics as defined yourdictionary.com, is ”the group of sciences (including arithmetic, geometry, algebra, calculus, etc. dealing with quantities, magnitudes, and forms and their relationships, attributes, etc., by the use of numbers and symbols.” Ernest (1989) mentioned that learning mathematics involves more than basic knowledge of facts, skills and procedures. He added that it has a crucial involvement of conceptual structures, the general strategies in solving problems, attitudes towards the subject and appreciation of mathematics.         According to the latest Gallup youth survey conducted in 2004 (as cited by Saad, 2005), the subject that the teenagers find most difficult in school is mathematics. Thus, Saad(2005) said that it is not surprising how the subject has the lowest performance rate. The reasons were not mentioned, however, Stites (1993) said that people......

First Avenue, Highland Park, NJ 08904, 732846-6850 Eileen Stec, Instruction & Outreach Librarian, Douglass Library, Rutgers, New Brunswick, NJ 08901, 848-932-5009 Hannah Kwon, PhD Student, Rutgers SC&I, New Brunswick, NJ 08901 Abstract Despite the considerable attention paid to the need to increase the information literacy of high school students in preparation for the transition to college, poor research skills still seem to be the norm. To gain insight into the problem, library instruction environments of nineteen high schools were explored. The schools were selected based on whether their graduates did well or poorly on information-skills assignments integrated in a required first-year college course. The librarians in the nineteen schools were asked to characterize their working relationships with teachers, estimate their students’ information-literacy achievement, and provide data on their staffing and budgets. Findings suggest that school librarians are seldom in a position to adequately collaborate with teachers and that their opportunities to help students achieve information literacy are limited. Introduction The study reported in this paper was inspired by observations made by students in the Master’s in Library and Information......

...Chapter 2 REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE & STUDIES Foreign According to Palm Beach Community College (PBBC, 2008),they recommend that student’s study should have at least three hours out of class for every hour spent in class. They also said that a student must have a special place to study with plenty of room to work. And students should not be cramped. They presupposes that study time will go better if a learner take a few minutes at the start to straighten things up. A desk and straight-backed chair is usually best. “ Don't get too comfortable--a bed is a place to sleep, not to study” as what they said. A student must have everything close at hand(book, pencils, paper, coffee, dictionary, computer, calculator, tape recorder, etc.) before starting to study. Students are not suggested to spend on time jumping up and down to get things. The PBCC suggests also that distracting noise should be minimized however they said that there are some people need sound and some like silence. In this case, a learner must finds what works for him or her. Culprits are family and friends. consider a "do not disturb" sign and turning on your answering machine is the way also to have better study habits according to the PBBC.. ...CHAPTER II REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES This chapter included relevant sources of information from foreign literature, local literature, foreign studies and local studies which tackle the existing activities that promote good study habits. This will be a guide to the research about the said topic presented in the next chapters. Foreign Literature According to Pogue (2000), what is true about study habits was that more than thirty years ago still rings true today-students fail because they do not know how to study. The best advice he can give is to develop sound study skills. It’s a common scene if some college students fail to finish a passing requirement for a subject course. What is lacking is their ignorance of developing good study habits that are necessary for good academic performance. And to worsen their ignorance are their psychological conception of giving up so easily and the tempting distractions of the surrounding that lead them to a zero percent possibility of creating their own ideal habits. So, it has become a major trouble to college students who are known to be suffocated with loads of works from school. To elaborate more about sound study habits, Rothkopf (1982) referred to it as to whether students study at the same time each day, whether they shut off radio, television while reading and whether they paraphrase and write down what they have read during the practical instructions. Study habit also describes some external activities......
