QUIZ #1 : Popular Music

“Shake It Off” by Taylor Swift

I choose this song because firstly, this song is one of the most popular song lately in America since the day it was released it was the #1 hit song on Billboard. For me personally, this song has a very catchy melody, where at first the band started of with an up-beat drum which could create a feelings of excitement. There are also a couple of repetition on the hook,

'Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate
Baby, I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake I shake it off, I shake it off
Heart-breakers gonna break, break, break, break, break And the fakers gonna fake, fake, fake, fake, fake
Baby, I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake I shake it off, I shake it off
So I think these repetition makes it easier for listeners to remember the song words, also the melody. Additionally, this song talks about a girl who’s brave, confident, happy and she doesn’t care about what people thinks on her.
If we see from the lyrics, Taylor uses a different kinds of words in every new chorus which makes the song interesting and not boring. In some part of the song, she sings the melody into a slower and softer sound to show the feelings where she’s chill and just go with the flow of music she listens to,
But I keep cruising..
Can't stop, won't stop moving.. It's like I got this music…
In my mind, saying, "It's gonna be alright.”
Another aspect of this song is that, the song focuses on a person’s self confidence. She demonstrate a lyrics that tells a story for the listeners to understand that we should be ourselves no matter what people…...

These walls that they put up to hold us back will fall down This revolution, the time will come For us to finally win And we'll sing hallelujah, we'll sing hallelujah So we've been outnumbered Raided and now cornered It's hard to fight when the fight ain't fair We're getting stronger now Find things they never found They might be bigger But we're faster and never scared You can walk away, say we don't need this But there's something in your eyes Says we can beat this Because these things will change Can you feel it now? These walls that they put up to hold us back will fall down This revolution, the time will come For us to finally win And we'll sing hallelujah, well sing hallelujah Tonight we stand, get off our knees Fight for what we've worked for all these years And the battle was long, it's the fight of our lives But we'll stand up champions tonight It was the night things changed Can you see it now? These walls that they put up to hold us back fell down It's a revolution, throw your hands up Cause we never gave in And we sang hallelujah, we sang hallelujah Hallelujah Christmas Must Be Something More What if ribbons and bows didn`t mean a thing Would the song still survive without five golden rings Would you still wanna kiss without misletoe What would happen if God never let it snow What would happen if Christmas carols told a lie Tell me what would you find You`d see that today holds something......

The Real Meaning Behind Little Red Riging Hood

...THE REAL MEANING BEHIND LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD APRIL V. SLAUGHTER INTRODUCTION TO LITERATURE (ENG 125) DAVID MAKHANLALL 4 MARCH 2013 I will be describing the theme of Little Red Riding Hood, and the real meaning behind this story. The elements that I found that will be contributing to the theme, is symbolism and the point of view. The point of view is described in our text as is third-person objective, which the narrator takes a detached approach to the characters and action increasing the dramatic effect of the story (Clugston, R. W. 2010). Plot is described as “a dynamic element in fiction, a sequence of interrelated, conflicting actions and events that typically build to a climax and bring about a resolution.” (Clugston, R. W. 2010 Ch. 5) To me the theme in the story is how Little Red is coming into her own maturity. With identifying the point of view of the story, you first need to know that the narrator is not telling the story in the first-person point of view, the first-person point of view is when one of the characters in the story, telling their own thoughts or feelings. Third-person point of view is when the narrator is not a character in the story. There are a couple different types of third-person point of view, omniscient, and objective. Omniscient point of view is when the narrator is knows or can relate to the characters, there is a second type of omniscient point of view is limited omniscient point of view which is when the narrator relates only...

True Meaning Behind the Separation of Church and State

...state is exceedingly important to be understood so that opinions shared would be based on a common understanding of such important concept. That is probably one of the few points on which everyone on all sides of the debate can readily agree upon — their reasons for agreeing may differ, but they do concur that the separation of church and state is one of the key constitutional principles in history. As presented, an honored principle of the Philippine Constitution is the separation of Church and State under Article 2, Section 6 of the Philippine Constitution. This has been the issue that Fr. Bernas tackled in his article especially in regards with the conditions that the said principle sets. Coming from a simple understanding of the meaning, I perceived that the separation of the Church and State means that the said organizations are two separate institutions that neither directs the affairs of the other. The State cannot aid one religion, aid all religions or prefer one religion over the other; and that every one is free to profess his belief or disbelief in any religion (De Leon, 2008). This is essentially the substance of the concept, however, Fr. Bernas further clarified the explanation by stating that the government is not involved in choosing church leaders and these leaders do not serve in government in their role as church leaders (although they may be elected or appointed to government positions in their capacity as ordinary citizens) – it is not constitutionally......

Taylor Swift

...Reading, Pennsylvania was a little girl with big hopes and dreams. Taylor Swift was a girl who spent most of her childhood singing and writing songs. At the age of nine Taylor turned her attention to musical theatre and performed in Berks Youth Theatre Academy productions of Grease and Annie. She traveled regularly to Broadway, New York for vocal and acting lessons. However after a few years of auditioning in New York and not getting anything she became interested in country music. At the age of twelve, Swift was shown by a computer repairman how to play three chords on a guitar, inspiring her to write her first song “Lucky You.” Taylor said “People haven’t always been there for me but music always has.” At the age of fourteen Taylor moved to Nashville and was offered a record deal with RCA records. Swift was ready at the age of fifteen to release an album with her own materials but the company wanted to wait until she was eighteen but she knew she was ready to launch her career with her own material, so she left that record company. At a café in Nashville, Swift caught the attention of Scott Borchetta, a DreamWorks records executive who was preparing to form his own independent record label, Big Machine records. Taylor was one of his new labels first signings. Since then she has written over 200 songs which all written about her true experience and feelings. In 2006 she released her first album called “Taylor Swift.” She received positive reviews from the music critics. And......

Taylor Swift

...Taylor Swift In the history of the music industry, there have been very few artists like Taylor Swift. It is extremely rare to find someone with several musical talents as well as an exceptional songwriting gift. From growing up on a Christmas tree farm in Pennsylvania to becoming one of the world’s most famous country singers, Taylor Swift has impacted the lives of many different types of people around the globe. With her parents Scott and Andrea, as well as her younger brother Austin, Swift grew up in the small Pennsylvanian town of Wyomissing. Before her interest in country music, Swift participated in a few children’s musical theater productions (Danielsen 1). One of her mentors noticed her special talent and suggested that Swift should consider pursuing a music career. Swift took up the suggestion and started getting involved with local competitions and open-mike gigs. By the age of 12, Swift began to learn the guitar on her own as well as beginning to write some of her own songs. Swift’s parents recognized Taylor’s passion for country music and decided to bring their daughter to Nashville to perform at small gigs, hoping to attract someone’s attention. Fortunately record label holder Scott Borchetta was hooked when he saw Swift perform one night at the Bluebird Cafe. At the age of 15, Taylor Swift was signed to Borchetta’s Big Machine Records . The Meaning Behind “the Yellow Wallpaper”

...Marggiori Salas Professor Cordell Composition II 7/26/12 The Meaning Behind “The Yellow Wallpaper” Charlotte Perkins Gilmanʼs “The Yellow Wallpaper” is a story of a woman who is not only trapped in a room but is trapped in her mind by her seemingly loving and patient, husband John. He is a physician and believes his wife’s nervous condition is curable by isolating her in a room without any mental stimulation including: exercise, work, reading, writing or any kind of excitement. This was called a “rest cure” at the time the story was written. Gilman herself was treated in this way and the story is a fictional version of her own experience. Gilman removed herself from the treatment when she realized it was not working. The wife in this story secretly writes in a journal like Gilman regardless of what her husband might say. Gradually, she starts to write more and more about the yellow wallpaper since this is the only stimulating thing in the room. The wallpaper increasingly fascinates her until it seems to her to have a life of it’s own and she ends up losing her sanity. This story is an example of how a wife and mother was perceived in the turn of the century as a fragile, helpless creature, without a voice beyond her husbands and how this woman ultimately proves how ineffective this treatment is in the worst possible way. The narrator starts out saying the house her husband has rented is haunted,...

Taylor Swift

...Taylor Alison Swift (born December 13, 1989) is an American singer-songwriter and actress. Raised in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, she moved to Nashville, Tennessee, at the age of 14 to pursue a career in country music. She signed with the independent label Big Machine Records and became the youngest songwriter ever hired by the Sony/ATV Music publishing house. The release of Swift's self-titled debut album in 2006 established her as a country music star. Her third single, "Our Song," made her the youngest person to single-handedly write and perform a number-one song on the Hot Country Songs chart. She received a Best New Artist nomination at the 2008 Grammy Awards. Swift's second album, Fearless, was released in 2008. Buoyed by the pop crossover success of the singles "Love Story" and "You Belong with Me," Fearless became the best-selling album of 2009 in the United States. The album won four Grammy Awards, making Swift the youngest ever Album of the Year winner. Swift's third and fourth albums, 2010's Speak Now and 2012's Red, both sold more than one million copies within the first week of their U.S release. Speak Now's "Mean" won two Grammy Awards, while Red's singles "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" and "I Knew You Were Trouble" were worldwide hits. Swift's fifth album, the pop-focused 1989, was released in 2014 and sold more copies in its opening week than any album in the previous 12 years, making Swift the first and only act to have three albums sell more than......

The Meaning Behind "The Road Not Taken"

...The meaning behind “The Road Not Taken” Laura M. Beck Liberty University English 102 September 26th 2011 Outline I. Symbolism II. Theme The paths and choices of life III. Mood and setting Choosing the right path a. One leads to eternal life b. One leads to destruction IV. Conclusion Choosing the right path makes all the difference. Thesis statement: This poem is a symbol of choosing which path we will take in life – the path to eternal life or the path that leads to destruction. The meaning of “The Road Not Taken” Some people have said that Robert Frost’s poem “The Road Less Traveled” is a tricky poem. I have even read where Frost himself used the word “tricky” to describe this particular piece of his. However when reading the poem especially as a Christian there is one possible interpretation that should stand out. That is that this poem is a symbol of choosing which path we will take in life – the path to eternal life or the path that leads to destruction. From what I have read many people do not see the two roads as the two possible roads we can take in life, but one must see that at least as a possibility. The mood of this poem is one that is a bit on the serious side. Of course there are many poems much more serious than this, but it is not to be taken lightly. When something is talking about choosing eternal life, or the path that leads to destruction it is not something anybody should take lightly. That is the theme of the......

It not till later in the story at you understands why Jane would hate the color. But know that yellow shines with optimism, enlightenment, and happiness. Shades of golden yellow carry the promise of a positive future. Yellow will advance from surrounding colors and instill optimism and energy, as well as spark creative thoughts. Which is why when is she in her cell or better known as her room she feels like writing. (http://www.sensationalcolor.com/color-messages-meanings/color-meaning-symbolism-psychology/all-about-the-color-yellow.html) But in the story “the Yellow wallpaper” the color yellow represents evil and danger, Here is Jane she just had a baby and she is scuffing from a mental breakdown which back then they really don’t understand how the mind works.
