IT DIDN’T END THE WAY I PLANNED IT WOULD
“HELP!” I shouted as my vision started to get blurry. I was drowning and everything was turning black. But suddenly I started seeing everything clearly which made me stand straight up on my bed while I fought to get out of a temporary shock.
“It was a dream” I scoffed. Then I heard my sister, “got…..you!!” she could hardly speak because she was busy laughing. I saw a glass in her hand and realized that she must’ve poured that water in the glass on my face to wake me up.
It was a perfect morning with a perfectly fine weather and the birds were singing. I thought, ‘nothing could go wrong today’. Today, it was a week after my birthday, so my father decided to make it up to me because last week everyone had a busy schedule. Hence, my birthday wasn’t celebrated at all.
I got out of my bed and walked straight into the bathroom to take a shower. I then heard my father.
“Wasif come out soon, we got to leave in an hour,” he said. I hurried myself in the shower wondering where we are going to go. Anyways, I put my clothes on went down for the breakfast. The moment I came down I saw my father waiting for me already. I just swallowed whatever I found on the dining table and ran towards the car. I was way too excited that I didn’t even the motorcycles and cars passing by, one of the motorcycles was about to hit me but, before it would my father shouted “Watch out Wasif!” “That was a close call dad, thanks anyways.” I panted.
I sat in the car and then he drove me to an outlet which had the most brands and the most expensive things. I thought to myself, “a great start to this wonderful day.” He then asked me to select any bicycle I want because I had this crazy wish to have a bicycle.
“Are you sure dad? These are beyond expensive.” I asked him.
“Nothing’s expensive at…...

Exhibition Review: I Can't Help the Way I Feel

...“I Can’t Help The Way I Feel” by John Isaacs The exhibition I chose is called “Medicine Now” which is being exhibited in Wellcome Collection. The exhibition is mainly demonstrating views of various artists and scientists about current common topics like obesity, genetics and how they describe the defects uniquely either with scientific explanations using video installations or creating huge objects and relating them to more abstract terms such as emotions and feelings. I think the most interesting piece in the entire exhibition was the one John Isaacs did, “I Can’t Help The Way I Feel”. The object is made from wax, polystyrene, steel and expanding foam, which are all covered in oil painting. The shape is to be considered as a human body with no head and arms but a fat giant torso, fat belly parts, and some parts that I can’t name which are coming out of the body in huge proportions. The size of the structure is enormous so that is the first thing you notice when you enter the room. The basic thing that comes up to mind is that this object is about obesity, and it is also referring to malaria. There are some defected skin areas on the back of the structure and also on the legs. If the object was just about obesity and malaria, I think it would be too obvious. But as I expected, the idea of all the sagging parts reflects also an abstract meaning. Isaacs wanted to describe how life sometimes feels so overwhelming. I think, he wanted to show what is also going on inside......

The Way It All Ends

...The Way It All Ends There I was, in my apartment, panicking, scrambling to get my things together. A backpack full of twinkies and hot pockets. Of course being a 19 year old residing in the suburbs of Detroit, I had a whole room full of guns….with no ammunition. PERFECT! I normally pack a .44 colt with me, but that’s for standard use, not against a horde of zombies. Yeah, I know what you’re thinking, ZOMBIES. I’ve had confrontations with them for 2 years. However these zombies are unlike any I’ve ever seen. These zombies could run….fast. it was almost like they had been given an extra dose of human flesh for their daily meal today. I wasn’t thinking I would ever have to use the other guns I had in my trap door basement. “My god! Where is my ammo?” I said in a very, unusual tone. “I don’t know, so don’t ask me!” I had almost forgotten my girlfriend was in the other room. By that time, she had made her way to my part of the house and was just staring at me. “Jesus Jessica, don’t creep up on me like that. You know I scare easily!” I said in a hyperventilating tone. “Well how was I supposed to know that you forgot about me?” she asked in an angry and upset tone. You see, I was never the one to act quite right in front of girls, let alone in a world full of flesh eating freaks. After that statement was said, we both fell silent for a while. “Im sorry Jess, I didn’t mean to sound mad at you, it just gets frustrating living in this world now.” “Its fine John” she said......

Planned Obsolesence

...ethical issue I have decided to dissect for this assignment is the issue of built-in obsolescence. This act, also known as planned obsolescence, is the intentional action of a manufacturer to create a built-in a point of failure or a pre-planned expiration date into a product (Investopedia, n.d.). This is done so as to force consumers to continually replace their products with newer versions, thereby increasing the manufacturer’s profits. This is clearly an ethical violation that most people would be outraged to know is a common practice in a variety of products, and at one point in time was actually encouraged in order to help our country break free from the great depression (White, 2008). Though this practice could serve to stimulate the economy, it is wrong to purposely cause products with the potential to last a decade, to only last a couple of years. This is not only wasteful, but it cheats consumers out of the option to hold onto products until they either become legitimately obsolete, or break due to normal wear and tear. While some companies are worse than others when it comes to a built-in obsolescence, there is one electronics manufacture that, in my opinion, is the worst of the bunch. It is a company that started out with a sincere and humble beginning, then rose to fame in the electronics world, but has since fallen far from the tree, so to speak. Fact based scenario Apple Incorporated has been at the heart of controversy when it comes to planned......

Planned Parenthood

...Planned Parenthood Planned Parenthood federation of America (PPFA), better known as Planned Parenthood, is a non-profit organization that provides healthcare and family planning services. Planned Parenthood is the nation's leading sexual and reproductive health care provider and advocate (Planned). Planned Parenthood receives federal funding to help practice the services they provide, but some groups believe that funding this organization is morally wrong. Critics of Planned Parenthood say the Government should not continue to fund this organization because of the certain services they provide. To cut funding from this organization would be wrong and would absolutely jeopardize individuals and families who seek assistance from it. Planned Parenthood is an affordable healthcare that provides services that other healthcare companies do not provide. To defund the organization would cause harm and leave many people to go without their essential services, which is unjust. Margaret Sanger was the founder of Planned Parenthood in 1916, with the opening of a birth control critic for women. The opening of the clinic ended soon and that lead to her incarceration (Planned). By 1952 the organization became one of the founding members of the International Planned Parenthood Foundation (MSPP). Richard Nixon was an important advocator of women being able to attain contraceptives at an affordable price, and from that he signed a law passed by congress known as the Title X of the......

The End of the World as I See It

...The End Of The World As I See It When I started to form tiny fractions of memories, China’s booming economy, its open-door policy, and big social reforms began taking places as it leaped into the 2000 millennial. All these changes lead to a more vivid and intermixing culture where novel lifestyle, alternative thoughts, and "non-traditional" religions like Christianity can thrive. I was lucky to be standing at the crossroad where China started to embrace different cultures and various religions. Thanks to the opened-up culture atmosphere, I was exposed to the clash of cultures between western ideology and traditional Confucianism thoughts. The word “apocalypse” was not even in my dictionary previously until Hollywood introduced it to me in the most dramatic ways I could possibly imagine, and ever since my speculation of the Apocalypse never stopped evolving. From more unrealistic predictions involving in zombies, Godzilla, and DNA-modified prehistoric killer dinosaurs, to more practical speculations like nuclear war and ozone depletion, I was constantly updating my Apocalypse view. With my increasing understanding of the mechanism of how the world functions as a whole, I realized that a global hot war is imminently possible since politics can exert a strong influence on the global situation. In a sense, the transformation China experienced was a direct result from the power of politics. In this essay, I will establish the following hypothesis: The world is going to end......

The End

...The significance of Cecil Rhodes on the British Empire It is true, Cecil Rhodes had an unquestionable impact on the British Empire and has become one of the most important figures in British Imperial history. The rapidity of his progress in South Africa is quite phenomenal; from the age of 37 he had become the Prime Minister of Cape Colony, and was part head of De Beers Consolidated, a diamond mining company which possessed a near monopoly of the global diamond market. However, this essay will claim that Rhodes as a businessman was not the main element in his imperial notoriety, prioritising NM Rothschild & Sons finance and subsequent corporate decisions over those made specifically by Rhodes. I will argue that Rhodes’ significance was mainly to the detriment of the British Empire, as his political blunders and capitalistic short-sightedness greatly tarnished public opinion towards Empire - nationally and internationally - and facilitated Britains losing independence in the Boer war of 1899. Rhodes’ methods were questionable to say the least, and his ability to strengthen Britain, whilst at the same time tarnish her long standing reputation as justified sovereign of her colonies was, impressive, to say the most. It has been said that Rhodes’ impeccable success as an imperialist can be greatly accredited to his success as a businessman. For it was his speculation in diamond and gold mining proper which facilitated his amass of wealth. Needless to say, the role of......

Planned Parenthood

...Planned Parenthood of Indiana Brenda Sheppard COM/215 02/23/2015 David Mumford Planned Parenthood of Indiana There are 3 good reasons to support Planned Parenthood of Indiana. Hello my name is Brenda Sheppard and I am writing this to persuade you all to support Planned Parenthood of Indiana. There are three good reasons why I believe you should. The first being that PPHI offers basic preventive health care; the second is that they have services that are more affordable and accessible for low or no-income individuals; and the final reason being they offer comprehensive sex health education. (Access, 2011) (Cockrum, 2010) Planned Parenthood of Indiana offers basic preventive health care, some of these services are crucial and life saving. Some examples of the services that they offer are different types of birth control such as the depo shot, the birth control pill, the IUD, to name a few. Other services include annual exams, Pap tests, STD and HPV testing, Prescriptions, as well as cancer screening. These services are there to find abnormalities before they have the opportunity to turn cancerous and to let people know there are options for long-term birth control. (Access, 2011) (Cockrum, 2010) Planned Parenthood of Indiana offers services that are more affordable and accessible for low or no-income individuals. PPHI serves 3 million men and woman annually. Every time we spend a dollar on family planning, we are saving taxpayers 4 dollars on every unintended......

In the End...

...April 2015 In The End… In the Heaven Scenario, all life on Earth will be subject to what technology wants to happen to it. Technology has progressed to the point of total control, but there is nothing to worry about. The technology is safe and everyone loves it. They use it to focus on the beauty and culture and the other fine things in life. Ideas that weren’t possible have come to existence. In the Hell Scenario, the technology that was supposed to safe us ends up condemning us. We will fight with one another, nation against nation, to gain control of the fast growing power of the technologies we built. But we will be so helpless, no type of agreement can be reached. Just like in the Heaven Scenario, things that were impossible before will come to pass. Only this time, they will be horrid things. In the Prevail Scenario, we humans begin to slowly take back the world we created for ourselves. Though technology will always be a part of who we are, what we do, and how we do it, we will control the technology. Not the other way around. As James Lanier put it, “Humans have an uncanny history of muddling through.” In other words, we will find a way to become relevant once more. We will find a way to come back from the corner we let technology back us into, and we will come out strong on the other side. No, it will not be easy, but it can be done. I am very much a people person and do not care so much for the many technological advances of this age. I am also very aware......

The End of Something

...An analysis of “The End of Something” «The end of something» is a four page long short story about something as simple as a breakup. In this analysis, I will write about the different parts of the story, and different kinds of symbols the author used during the short story. I chose this focus because that’s the most important thing to notice if you really want to understand the story. The author of this short story is the famous writer Ernest Hemingway. He lived in the 20th century, and most of his short stories and romans were based on his own life experiences, including many experiences from the world wars. Hemingway is well known for his writing style, and his iceberg theory. This short story is also a great example of how Hemingway used the iceberg theory in his stories. The story takes place in the old lumbering town of Horton’s bay, where there once upon a time was a fun, loving town with a big mill in the center. Now, ten years later, the mill is broken and it’s not much left of the town. The young couple, Marjorie and Nick, is rowing nearby the shore, trying to catch some fish. After a failed fishing trip, and some awkward silence, Nick admits that he does not think their relationship is fun anymore. Marjorie packs her stuff and leaves, and suddenly a new character enters the story. Nicks friend Bill shows up and wonders how the breakup went. I would say this story has five different parts. The first part is the description of the setting and the history of the......

Counterproductive New Age Feminism (I Wrote This for School. I Am in No Way Credible)

...to the other (females). The counter-productive essence of modern feminism is only strengthened because these feminists are the ones perpetuating the stigma of females being the weaker sex and the males being the dominant one. And as far as power is concerned, it has been established by Old Feminism that females are no longer the “weaker” sex, meaning rape culture is not as prevalent as it was before the feminist movement. Pursuing the new wave of feminism would only diminish the progress the old wave had thus far. To further corroborate this study’s claims on New Wave feminism, the following evidence suggests that gender feminists dichotomize the genders, assigning males as the “oppressor” and females as the “victims” and never the other way around. Sandra Bartkey, an expert on phenomenology on feminist consciousness, says that “Feminist consciousness is a consciousness of victimization…to see oneself as a victim.” Also, Catherine McKinnon, a leading feminist figure, further supports the above claim by saying: “In a patriarchal society, all heterosexual intercourse is rape because women, as a group, are not strong enough to give meaningful consent.” For argument’s sake, let us say that their sexist views on males aims to supplement the Old Wave feminism methodologies by using sexism to adapt to a contemporary world of oppression. The question right now is why is it still wrong? Despite the noble intentions of New Wave feminists to bolster equality, using sexism as a tool to......

Planned Parenthood Essay

...Planned Parenthood Intro-Andrea: Health care is extremely important, but one form which is overlooked or often not talked about often is sexual healthcare. Did you know these facts? Over 25 million people have died from AIDS since 1981. STDs often cause death, infertility, chronic pain, birth defects, & miscarriages. Everyday 12,000 American teens contract an STD. 1 in 5 Americans have genital herpes. 90% don’t know it and don’t show signs. There are 750,000 teen pregnancies in the U.S. a year (2,000 a day). About 80% of teen fathers don’t stay with the mom. Every 45 seconds someone in the U.S. is sexually assaulted. How can we prevent these numbers and statistics? We can with Planned Parenthood. Need-Julie: Planned Parenthood is a nonprofit health care provider, an informed educator, a passionate advocate, and a partner helping similar organizations around the world. It delivers reproductive health care, sex education, and therapy for victims of rape, and information to millions of people worldwide. With approximately 700 health centers nationwide, Planned Parenthood is an educated leader and trusted health care provider able to provide many services. A few are-contraception, sex education, STD and cancer screening, and more. When people first hear about Planned Parenthood, they often turn their head the other way because of the controversial topics surrounding the organization. A huge reason why is because Planned Parenthood supports the termination of......

Discuss Ways in Which Dickinson Presents Death in 465 (‘I Heard a Fly Buzz – When I Died’).

...This poem demonstrates a wide array of interpretations of death as well as Dickinson’s uncertainty as to what may come after Death and her questioning of the existence of God. Dickinson sees death in a very physical way; she chooses not to concentrate on the spiritual aspect or the anticipated arrival of “the King”. This is best shown in the opening line of “I heard a Fly buzz”, where we are immediately provoked by thoughts of decay and rot. She chooses to focus on physical aspects of the mourners such as their “eyes” and “breaths”. This is perhaps to focus on the painless death of the woman, as Calvinists believed that if someone suffered a peaceful death they would enter the Kingdom of God. Her use of an oxymoron in “that last onset” shows how she acknowledges the religious importance of death to others, as in 19th century America Christians believed that the “last” of someone’s life on earth was the “onset” of their eternal life in heaven. Death is thought to bring revelations as with it comes an exalted male figure of “the King” to be “witnessed”, yet this expectation and sense of ritual is undercut by the juxtaposition of “in the Room” and furthermore so by “the fly” which interposes and is all that appears in place of God. Dickinson focuses on the harsh realities of death in the fact that the dying can only “will their Keepsakes” yet their souls and character will be lost forever. This is emphasized by the manner in which the mourners conduct themselves. They......

I Am the Way

...Andrew S. Bledsoe BIBLE 323-B03 03/05/12 I AM THE WAY THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE -JOHN 14:6 In the Book of John we see Jesus making some very bold statements about Himself, and relating Himself to the Father. The statements all begin with “I AM.” In the Book of Exodus 3:14, God says, “I AM THAT I AM,” [1] Which in Hebrew means I am the One that shall be, I am that was. This statement always comes to those who lack faith, in the Old Testament it came with Moses at the burning bush, in the New Testament it came with the disciples on numerous occasions. One particular “ I AM” statement is the one found in [2] John: 14:7, “Jesus said unto them, I Am the way the Truth and the Life: no man comes unto the Father except through Me.” We were in need of a Savior due to our lack of righteousness that was the key of Christ explaining the way to God. [6] The mediator did not come on His own. God so loved that He “gave”, that He “sent” His Son. We begin the Chapter of Jesus speaking to the disciples in the Upper Room, [3] On page 118 of Jesus is the Christ, “Jesus was talking to the disciples about His imminent departure, finishing with “and where I am going you know the way.” [6] On page 46 of Saved from what by R.C. Sproul, “The promise of entering into Christ’s presence came initially from the lips of Jesus Himself.” While in the...
