Journal 2 When it comes to me and negotiation I fall under the category of avoidance. I will say that if there is a way to avoid a major conflict or future conflict I usually take the steps to do that. There are also many times when I personally find things not worthy of a major discussion. I would rather take care of things that are going to have a major impact rather than little complications that pop up here and there. Time management is something that I focus on, so there are times where I do avoid issues that could be solved and they end up turning into a bigger situation then they needed to be. When I thought about this I realized that being an avoider could actually be a big disadvantage. When I continually avoid all the smaller issues that are occurring they have the potential to turn into one huge issue. That large issue will probably end up taking a lot more time to resolve, and could result in the relationships that I have being hurt. If you are not willing to sit down and have discussions with your counterparts or even people on your side, you risk the chance of them not wanting to work with you at all. Once that happens it will be a lot harder to get a deal done when the time comes for a negotiation of some sort. Another disadvantage of being an avoider is the fact that if you are constantly avoiding situations that could be resolved with a little bit of negotiation nothing will ever get done or get changed. When you look at some of the traits of an avoider you see somebody who has low concern for relationships and also a low concern for their own outcomes. Although that is not how I see myself those are the characteristics of an avoider. When I see that it makes me realize that I have to change some of things that I do when it comes to negotiation. A better way to put that is I might have to start negotiating. Otherwise when a major…...

...Arantxa Velezmoro JOURNAL 2 In the short poem, “The love song of J. Alfred Prufrock”, T.S Elliot illustrates himself to be a modern man who is simply trying to grasp the attention from a lady. Prufrock seems to be an overeducated, powerful, fearful, observant, and emotionally mannered man. Some of the major images in the short poem are the sinister streets, the eating and drinking, the ocean, the body parts, and the rooms. T.S Elliot presents and adds to the development of the narrator’s character with imagery and metaphors. For instance, Prufrock is very concerned about his reputation, and he doesn’t want to stick out in a crowd. He’d rather people not notice him at all. In lines 2-3Although it doesn’t directly deal with body parts, the simile comparing the evening to a patient who has been put under anesthesia “etherised” on a surgery table prepares us for all the metaphorical "surgery" and "dissecting" that Prufrock does when he sees people only as body parts. Also, Prufrock says that the spoons he uses to measure his coffee are like a "measure" of his life, as well. Here the spoon is a synecdoche that actually refers to the whole process of sitting around in the afternoon and sipping on a caffeinated drink. Basically, he lives from one cup of coffee or tea to the next. Another example of imagery is when Prufrock presents the "claws"; the claws are synecdoche. They stand for a crab, which is the animal you’d most likely think of as scurrying on the ocean floor. Prufrock...

Journal 2 Commerce 436

...COMM 436 Journal 3 In my view, zero-injury goals are unrealistic targets because I feel that it is impossible to prevent all injuries from happening. An employer only has so much control over what happens in the workplace. It is critical for the employer to ensure that jobs are done in a safe manner. This is usually done by training employees in health and safety, supervising the workplace, identifying and addressing hazards, etc. But what about when employees are injured at the workplace but not while they are doing work? For example, an employee could be walking down some stairs at the workplace and slip and get injured. There could be no hazards in the way and all the safety measures in place, such as railing. The employee could have been thinking of something worrisome in his/her life and therefore missed a step. This would result in an injury which in my view is impossible to prevent. An employer cannot control how an employee acts and goes about in the day. The employer has no control over employees taking shortcuts to meet deadlines, coming to work tired or sick, or just not performing the job safely even though the employee has been put through training and been made aware. These things among others could all be the potential cause of a workplace injury. An employer cannot control the thinking or human nature of an employee. This is why I feel that zero injury goals are unrealistic. It’s true that prevention and training play a part in not having a high rate of......

Reflective Journal 2 Week 4

...Michael Louis Mitchell Reflective Journal 2 English 115 Dr. Rachel Deluise 29 October, 2013 When I read articles in newspapers, magazines and websites, sometimes I am frustrated due to the lack of factual information. I feel the writer has a responsibility to the readers that they have completed as much research prior to going to print. I know many readers who rely on their favorite journalist simply assume the information they are reading is accurate. Information that is unsubstantiated can lead to debates, lawsuits and someone losing their job. Some authors will update the in the next issue but often times it is too late and the damage is done. The way I try and approach what I am writing is to first know if I already have knowledge about what I am researching. I ask myself if I know anything about the subject and where I can find more information about the matter. I also try to find anyone I know personally who may have extensive knowledge or experience on the subject. This can also lead to additional sources. I also gather information from my local library and use the internet. Once I have gathered all of my sources. I then go through each of what I had gathered and determine what will go into my paper. We can face many challenges when it comes to research. Very little information may be available on the internet or libraries. Experts may be unreachable by phone or deceased. It is possible you may have to travel to get the information you need which......

Reflective Journal 2

...Reflective Journal 2 As we move into research and how to validate your information that was researched we have developed some questions. What do you think when you read claims in a newspaper r magazine that seems to be unsubstantiated. I first take a look at the source and subject to ensure I understand what I am reading. The source will determine how I view the credit of the paper or magazine, some source are always subjective. The title or subject really defines how I will receive the information, will I be open minded or close mind because of the source. News is supposed to be informative data or information for the reader, so he or she can make an educated decision. Now a lot of sources are subjective all they do is cloud the readers mind with speculations, no facts. Researching is the most important factor to ensure your reader receives the facts or your particular subject. Finding multiple sources is my method of research so I can use the compare method. I used websites, newspaper and when possible pass research papers to get a better understanding of what I am researching. What are the challenges in doing research? Identify what are facts and what are someone’s personnel thoughts. Some sources have a combination of both within their sources, so being able to pull the facts out becomes that much more difficult. What are some tips that you think will help you and others in conducting research? First thing is to always use creditable sources that back...

Bshs Journal Entry Week 2

...Journal Entry II BSHS 401 October 14 2013 Darla Roberts Journal Entry II October 14, 2013 After reviewing the second community resource in my city I have stumbled across one similar resource but they service different illnesses. (ACR) which stands for access care and resources for health is a non-profiting organization that focuses on the prevention of the spreading of HIV/AIDS while providing supporting services that focus on education of the illness. The organization usually services families that may have a member that is trying to deal with the illness that they have; the organization helps people not feel so bad about it and allow them to understand that it is not the end of the world. The goal of this community resource is to prevent the spread of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases, provide support to people and families that are living with someone that may have the virus, and lastly to promote the understanding of the how people catch this illness and ways that it could be prevented. Normally an organization such as this one is heard about through word of mouth or recommended to by a social worker. Considering the fact that this organization is a non-profiting one, the client does not have to worry about prices which makes it much easier to help those that need it. Special care is given to those that are already infected with the virus. I think that I would recommend this organization to people because if there was a better awareness of what......

Leonard Pahati Week 2 Journal

...opens the door for everyone and that’s what the Gospel of Luke was all about. The Gospel of Luke portrayed life lessons about not assuming one’s self based off of a not so good title, but judging the individual’s mercy and belief towards God. Imagery number two displayed the most genuine welcoming environment compared to the other five images. The Gospel of Luke showed Jesus, and other Jesus figures being Genuine through the stories of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector; Good Samaritan; Parable of lost sheep; Lazarus and the Richman; and the Parable of the Lost Son. Being Genuine takes a lot of effort and kind personality in order to let others even though they are sinners into the community of God. Being Genuine is a key aspect towards image 2 and why it deserves to be part of the image for the documentary of the Gospel of Luke. The Pharisee and the Tax collector was a story about two people praying. The Pharisee praying or talking to God and how much righteousness he had and what good things he did for the Lord. The Tax collector was very sorrowful and merciful towards the actions that he had done and pleads for forgiveness of his sins. Despite being a Pharisee, the intentions of excluding people who are tax collectors or sinners is wrong. Being genuine like Jesus is a good thing because it gives people hope and faith to believe in God the father. No one should look down on others just because of the title of a Tax Collector or a sinner. Everyone deserves to have the......

My Journal Week 2

... My Journal HIS/ 120 09/28/2015 My Journal HIS/ 120 09/28/2015 Dear Diary, Today is November 4, 1920. My mother and father, my brother, Jonathan, my sister, Rosy and I are forced to leave our country in Eastern Europe; migrating to the United States of America. My mother told us about her close friends that she had known since she was a child, moved there. Her best friend Charlotte wrote letters to her every week. Explaining that America has a lot of job opportunities, education, and that there’s freedom there to live. Verses staying in our home country where anti-Semites would start riots. 1. So we packed all our belongings and took whatever we could carry. After purchasing our tickets to sail away, we entered the biggest ship I’ve ever seen. I had many emotions and thoughts rushing through my mind. Feeling nervous about moving to a place I’ve never been… Sad that there’s a war coming to erupt… Worried for the people that we’re leaving behind… Exhausted from stress and not getting enough sleep... What’s really going to happen when we get to America? I hate the feeling of not knowing what’s going to come because I feel then I have to prepare myself for the worse. On the ship there were more than 2,000 Jews. Everybody was very close together and compacted inside. We had to make our own beds and we had to keep each other warm. It took us days, weeks for our arrival. I couldn’t keep track. Some people eventually gotten seasick because of the rocking back and forth. On the......

Journal 2 Week 2

...Journal Two: Identifying Conflict in Two Texts Read About Journals in ENG125: Introduction to Literature for more information about the purpose and expectations for journals. This week, you continue writing your journal entries. This journal entry is designed to help you document ideas about conflicts in literature, which will contribute to the information required for the Week Three Draft and the Week Five Literary Analysis. Recognizing conflict is essential to understanding the various commentaries literature can provide.  In Journal One, you identified conflict as it might appear in our everyday world and from other sources. Now, consider the following definition of conflict and how it relates to literature from the textbook or the story/poetry links provided under the requirements for the Literary Analysis:  Conflict is opposing actions, ideas, and decisions that hold a plot together...the struggle that shapes the plot in a story.  Chapters 1-7 of our text contain a number of stories and poems, each of which rely on at least one conflict. Choose two of this week’s assigned literary works and write about the conflicts presented in each of them. In 250 to 500 words Individual versus Society --- “Still she had come down the road toward the big white church alone. Just herself, an old forgetful woman, nearly blind with age” (para 3.1,2) --- appears to be the main conflict in Alice Walker’s narrative ironically, yet metaphorically named "The Welcome Table”.......

Edu-230 Module 2 Journal

...EDU-230 August 25, 2012 Module 2 Journal Multicultural education is viewed by some teacher’s as irrelevant. On page 31, is states “Content integration deals with the extent to which teachers use examples, data, and information from a variety of cultures and groups to illustrate the key concepts, principles, generalizations, and theories in their subject area or discipline.” I feel that the knowledge Construction Process is an important concept. This is a good way for students to understand how knowledge is and how it’s created. Prejudice Reduction is another key concept that sticks in my mind. It goes to show us how teachers can teach their students to develop a positive attitude about race. Teaching materials are important when it comes to teaching. There are so many things that are needed and that include teaching race, attitudes and behaviors. Teachers need to make sure that their techniques and teaching methods are appropriate for their students and cultures. To do this the teachers have to be knowledge about cultures. On page 35 it sums up a lot to me: Research indicates that teachers can increase the classroom participation and academic achievement of students from different cultural and language groups by modifying their instruction so that it draws upon their cultural strengths. The eight characteristics of the Multicultural School is something that I feel will benefit my classroom. I think that each one of these characteristics is......
