I am currently taking an art class, which I love, some psychology classes (I had to pull strings to get into those ones, because they are only for juniors and seniors!) and a comp class (yours). Yo soy tanbien en espanol dos :) es muy interesante. (I am also in Spanish Two, it is very interesting!!!!!!!!) I’m the oldest in my family, and I have a younger sister (12) and a younger brother (6). Since I was 11 years old, I have wanted to be an occupational therapist and teach disabled kids how to ride horses; it is something that I really enjoy doing. I also enjoy drawing (I'm in drawing two) and hablando en espanol. (Talking in Spanish).

No Talking During Class

...Why students shouldnt talk during class. * First, it is rude. Second, it won't help you if you don't learn. By talking you are telling the teacher that what you say is more important than what they are saying. You might miss important info and you won't know how to do your homework. It might also be on the test and you would miss the question. If you are doing a test the teacher would think that you were cheating and give you a 0. Being respectful in class is important to the social structure of the educational environment. Without a certain degree of respect it would distract a lot of our valuable attention, and direct it away from our daily learning. This greatly would hinder our learning abilities and minimizes our educational benefits. The dilemma that we face is that a lot of student to not know how to present the proper behavior in class. The good thing is good classroom educate is an easily obtainable skill, but a perishable skill as well before we learn how to demonstrate good classroom behavior; we must first learn the benefits of good behavior. Disrespect in class causes havoc and disorderliness. For instance If one were to speak out of turn not only would it upset the follow class mate because they did not get a fair chance to speak, but it would give the impression that other people can speak out of turn as well. If ever one spoke out of turn there would be no way to accomplish any thing. There will be too many interruptions, and some students will miss......

Talking Styles

...Talking Styles Com 200 Interpersonal Communication Talking Styles Communication has been a very important key in the presence in our world and always will be. Good communication is vital for personal and professional success, and they are vital to forming or maintaining a relationship (Sole K, 2010). When you think about it without this innocent ability our people would probably not be able to persist. In the article, “Shared Talking Styles Herald New and Lasting Relationships,” the author, Bruce Bower signifies that people you are friends with have a chance to last for a longer period of time if the language style is the same. I also think that the friendship is strong, that their language styles will match. The article,, was very interesting, yet quite impersonal. While I might go as far to say that a shared talking style can interest the intellectual side of me, I find feelings and emotions are more adept at fanning the love flames. The article claims that the use of function words hint as to the attentiveness that each person is giving to what is being said. This writer believes that when two people are involved in an interpersonal relationship and are closely connected, words are often not needed for effective communication. Communication experts generally agree that when two people are engaged in face-to-face conversation, only a small fraction of the total message they share is contained in the words they use. A large portion of the......

Me Me Me

...“The difficulty in life is the choice”, 1 100% agree with this quote George Moore indeed would have gotten a vote from me when it came to come true this actually is. To explain his quote in other words; he’s stating the hardships and difficultly in life can most likely be avoided , you step into it and enhance it more that’s where the difficulty comes in which in some many ways could have probably be avoided . The book “Twelve Angry Men” by Reginald Roses is definitely a prime example of chosen difficulty when in many ways it could have been avoided. The teenager in the book “Twelve Angry Men” was on trial for the manslaughter of his own father. In my opinion that teen was all the way guilty. But majority of the 12 jurors saw him as innocent. Some pledged his innocence by justifying the manslaughter by saying he was “ a product of his environment” , claiming the boy grew up in the slums , had it bad all his life , from the robbing’s to the car theft even the stabbing his was involved in with another teen. But let’s be real it wasn’t mandatory for this teen to do those things. In all reality that young boy did those wrong doing himself all by his lonesome. Of course probably his environment gave him ideas and the thoughts in his head, but let’s thinks did the environment put the knife in his hand and forced him to kill his father? No right, so why the environment is the one to blame when it came to this boy reasons for killing his own father? No one lead him down the path of...

Talking Styles

...I read the article, “Shared Talking Styles Herald New and Lasting Romance” by Bruce Bower. He talked about how the length of relationships can be based on your styles of communication. Bower also discusses how the use of function words such as; pronouns, articles, conjunctions, prepositions and negations”(Bower) can have an affect on conversation partners. He goes own to explain how language style matching “signifies not how much two people like each other but how much each is paying attention to what the other says”(Bower). After reading the article, I went to the Language Style Matching website and took the test. In this essay I will talk about my score and my thoughts about the Language Style Matching test. When I first read the directions to the Language Style Matching test, I was wondering what kind of results I would be given based on single conversation. I use a conversation between my best friend and I, through via text message and the score we received was 0.72. My best friend and I have been close since we were in the second grade; I believed the way that we used our words affected our score. I do not believe the website score was accurate because of the closeness that we share, and the understanding that we have with each other. There are times we can finish each other’s sentences because we know each other thoughts on certain subjects. I thought that we would get a higher score than what we received. I do not know how they come up with the scoring on this......

Talking to the Enemy

...Psych 253 Book Review: Talking to the Enemy Richard Marion In his book Talking to the Enemy (2010), Scott Atran uses his experiences in the countries often perceived as the origin of most global terrorist actions against the United States combined with scientific proof from a wide variety of sources to argue for new methods of understanding and stopping terrorism as it exists today. Though many examples and analyses of terrorist acts are examined in the book along with many different explanations for the social and psychological mechanisms that may cause them, one of the central ideas is the power of social bonds to drive people to commit actions that they never would have considered alone. This paper will analyze Atran's argument as it is supported by social psychology, and in particular specific research that was used in the writing of the book itself. Atran states that “to kill and die with friends... almost invariably involves deep love of one's group” (p. 317) and goes on to say that having no empathy towards other groups allows this to happen. His own work in Radical Madrasas in Southeast Asia (Atran, Ginges, Magouirk, 2008) supports his claim by showing that when students viewed someone as being outside of their group and incapable of becoming a member of their group, they were much more likely to support violence against that person. This was shown by interviewing the students in regards to whether they believed that people were “born evil but learn to become......

Excessive Talking

...I am being disciplined for talking in class without the teacher's permission. I must realize that when too many people are talking at once, it is hard to hear and understand anyone at all. That is one reason why my teacher wants only one person to talk at a time. A second reason is that most people find it difficult to think about what they are trying to say if someone else is talking at the same time they are. A third reason I should not talk in class without first being given permission is that most people find it hard to concentrate on their schoolwork when others around them are talking. There are times to listen and think and work quietly. It is at these times that I should not talk without being given permission first. Additionally, by paying attention to, and doing, my schoolwork instead of talking without permission, I will probably get better grades. When I talk in class, I bother everyone around me. I also bother my teacher. By talking in class I keep myself and others from learning. I also show others that I have not learned how to follow directions or how to control myself. Some students might find it hard to be friends with me if I cannot follow directions or control myself, because they could get in trouble too, by talking back to me during class. In fact, if they get caught and I don't, they will probably be angry at me because I started talking first! I should work very hard to not talk during class unless I get permission first. A......

Talking Styles

...Talking Styles New studies are showing that key words can determine if people are more compatible. They also show talking styles with people whom talk similarly communicate better. Are these claims real or is it just happenstance? Communicating is how we let our words convey or thoughts and ideas. Being on the same page can bring people closer. People, who talk similar, communicate with each other similar. This can affect the closeness of friends or help in romantic relationships (Bower, 2010). Bruce Bower wrote an article titled: Shared Talking Styles Herald New and Lasting Romance. In this article claims are made that talking styles that are alike between people can predict lasting romantic interests. Researchers call this language-style matching (Bower, 2010).It measures how much people pay attention to one another. It states that even people who do not get along may have similar skills amongst themselves. Examples are given with speed daters: citing that those with the same language skill sets are more likely to get better results in longer lasting relationships. Another example is crisis negotiators. . We all communicate with each other based on our self-image and self-concept of our selves. Our listening skills and language skills change over time and depending on the person we are communicating with how we express ourselves (Sole, 2011). We adapt and change our language skills to meet the desired affect we want. Word manipulation is a......

Am I Talking to Me

...Am I Talking to Me? By Izzy Gesell The Power of Internal Dialogue to Help or Hinder Our Success Good communication skills are high on everyone's list of relationship "must-haves." Successful communication can be described as the transmission of thought, feeling or action so that is satisfactorily understood. Usually, the skills referred to are of the interpersonal variety. I think it's just as important to understand your internal communication, referred to as your self-talk, Self-talk is defined as the ongoing dialogue we have with ourselves that determines our behavior and it turns out we talk to ourselves all the time. This self-talk both reflects and creates our emotional states so when the self-talk is negative we become more stressed, less confident and more concerned with what other people think. We often tend to believe our self-talk is real and objective, not always aware that it comes from a feeling or belief we have. The good news is that we can transform our life experiences by learning how to defuse the power of negative self-talk. This entry will look at what self talk is, how it works and describe 5 kinds of negative self-talk. Part 2 will describe 5 additional kinds of negative self talk and offer a way to turn negative self talk around into positive action. HOW SELF-TALK WORKS In the memorable subtitle scene of the movie "Annie Hall." Woody Allen ("Alvy" and Diane Keaton ("Annie") are on the balcony off Annie's apartment. With a cityscape in the......

Talking

...Imagine a chaotic class where everyone talks about irrelevant topics during instruction. This makes it very difficult to learn. Therefore, talking should not be tolerated in class and there should be severe consequences for this in class. The first reason talking should not be allowed in class is that the teacher has a lot of important information to give students to prepare them for the STAAR test. Unnecessary talking interferes with the delivery of this information. Teachers do not have time to waste by telling students to stop talking. My teacher once calculated that he wasted a total of forty minutes reminding students to listen quietly to instructions. That is almost an entire class period. Another reason talking should not be permitted in class is that it causes students to lose focus and breaks their train of thought. Many times a student near me will play or chat with other students while I am working on a question, and I forget what I want to write. I lose valuable time trying to remember my thoughts. In conclusion, unnecessary talking has very bad effects on teaching and learning. Teachers who maintain this rule are doing the right thing for students who want to learn. There is a time and place for everything. Talking should only be permitted when students have something important to say in class. Wangila, M. J., Martin, W., & Ronald, M. (2015). Effect of Programmed Instruction on Students' Attitude towards Structure of......

Me, Me Me

...In January 2008 a British journalist, Sarfraz Manzoor, wrote an article with the title “Me, Me, Me” that appeared in the magazine “Esquire”. He gives his opinion on how the phenomenon “New Narcissism” has its influences on today’s society through the Internet. And he leaves us with the impression that there is a reason to be worried about today's youth being more narcissistic than ever before. Narcissism is not new for us. New Narcissism is a modern version of the phenomenon narcissism. And it has been known since ancient Greece with the Greek myth about Narcissus that fell in love with his own reflection in the water. The man that got narcissism recognized as a medical condition was Sigmund Freud (l. 53). But in our age, the word, narcissism, does not seem that serious and is mostly defined as a phenomenon. This New Narcissism has come to life because society reproduces itself (l. 59). And growing numbers of people are more narcissistic according to a study performed by psychologists. Sarfraz Manzoor, who has written this article, describes that New Narcissism is the offspring of today’s society. He makes an example by including a person named Chris Crocker. Crocker became famous because he put a video on the Internet where he defended the celebrity Britney Spears. There can be two reasons for his behaviour. Is he doing this to tell people that they shall back off and because he is fond of her? Or is he doing this to get attention? But it does not seem as if Britney is......
