More Action, Less Drama at Disney
Some Hollywood studio chiefs make their mark in a new job by signing deals with big name stars. Others announce their intention to rethink the ways movies are made and released. Alan Horn did it with a talking monkey.
In one of his first moves after being named chairman of Walt Disney Co.'s movie studio last May, Mr. Horn approved reshoots for “Oz: The Great and Powerful,” a prequel to the “Wizard of Oz” that comes out Friday. The biggest change was to give star James Franco a wacky sidekick in the form of a chatty flying simian. In the version of the movie shot before Mr. Horn began, the monkey talked only late in the picture.

“Alan took the movie over and really made it his,” said producer Joe Roth.
Few in Hollywood would be comfortable during their first weeks in a new job ordering up $15 million of changes to a movie that already cost about $200 million. But insiders say Mr. Horn, a 70-year-old industry veteran, has brought gravitas to the top of a studio embroiled in drama since 2009, when Disney Chief Executive Robert Iger filled the job with Rich Ross, a television executive who had no filmmaking experience. Mr. Ross lasted less than three years.
“There really is a feeling of stability and that is exactly what was needed,” said Mr. Roth, who held Mr. Horn's job from 1994 through 2000. “A year or two ago you'd talk to agents and they couldn't figure out what Disney was up to.”
Mr. Horn could hardly be more different from Mr. Ross, who came to the movie studio after running Disney Channels Worldwide. Upon taking the top movie job, Mr. Ross ousted most of the studio's senior executives and sought to revamp established marketing and distribution strategies. Even though students who spend most of the time studying will get very stress in midterm and final exam. These exams will judge how well they doing for the whole entire semester. Patrick O’ Malley in “More Testing, More Learning” mentions that more testing will provides students a better learning because more testing will forces students to have a good study habits, it will helps student to focus on every unit in the text book and it will encourages students to learn from their mistakes. The second section was algorithms, which is where I performed best, since I was taking the Data Structures and Algorithms course that semester. It started off with a discussion of my resume, especially of my work at DB, and the interviewer even told me about how they do something quite similar in their team. He asked me about my courses and my interest in finance. The discussion then moved towards finance and we discussed questions like why are gold prices increasing and why are US treasury bonds still valuable and also about the Euro crisis. I call it a discussion because although it would start off with a question the interviewer would pose for me, very soon it would end up being an interesting discussion with each of us putting in our opinion and views and new facts. The world may have not of had a term for it back in those days however making a individual or individuals feel as if they are not equal or less than them has always been an unfortunate situation humans have had to fight rough whether in school, at the park or over the internet. Bullying is around and is getting worse the more the Internet expands and links individuals through social networking. In history there has been billions of bullying situations, not all have been documented and broadcasted through the web and news. In 2010 Tyler Clementi killed himself after his roommate at Rutgers University filmed him kissing another man. Phoebe Prince a 15-year-old innocent young girl moved from Ireland and not even after living in the United States for a year killed herself because of bullying in a Massachusetts school. These are just a few of the innocent lives that were taken resulting from being bullied. The most unfortunate bullying results can be when multiple individuals gang up on one person. In Tampa Florida for over a year 15 girls ganged up on an innocent 12 year old named Rebecca Ann Sedwick. ...November 2015 Learn More, Earn More Think back to your first job...what was your pay starting out?  Entry levels jobs in the past certainly did not earn higher wages like those being fought for today.  Fast food workers are raging for an increase in minimum wage-to perform jobs that don’t require a high school diploma, or college education...little to no academic requirements are needed to work at a fast food restaurant.  Minimum wage in North Carolina is currently $7.25, whereas fast food workers would like to raise minimum wage to $15.00.  A person with minimum skills should not receive higher than current minimum wage. Fight for $15 is a Workers Organizing Committee, a union of fast food workers raging ands striking for higher pay.  This organization was founded in November of 2012.  These workers believe that they are forced to live in poverty, because they earn a wage of $7.25. “We work for corporations that are making tremendous profits, but do not pay employees enough to support our families and cover basic needs.” (Fight for $15) These jobs are not meant to be careers for adults with families.  These jobs are meant for teenagers that live at home and are in high school or college.  Clearly, no one can raise a family off of $15,080 annual income, before taxes, if they worked 40 hours a week.  But, a high school or college student can.  One of the strikers says, “Low wage jobs are the fastest growing jobs in the nation, and they need to pay more.” (Fight for......
