Configuring Expanded Switched Networks: VLANS and VTP Lab (30 points)
Write a paragraph (minimum five college-level sentences) below that summarizes what was accomplished in this lab, what you learned by performing it, how it relates to this week’s TCOs and other course material, and just as important, how you feel it will benefit you in your academic and professional career. -------------------------------------------------
In this week's lab I learned and experienced the skills necessary in order to configure expanded switched networks. The type of networks that I worked with, in this particular lab, are Vlans and VTPs. The first steps allowed me to shut down and enable ports that the interface will be connecting to. I setup VTP domain names and worked with different modes in order to setup the trunks. I…...

...NETW360 Week 3 Lab: Mixed 11b/11g WLAN Performance Explanation and Background Although the 802.11x standards are designed to work together to some extent, some of the compromises made to further this aim do, in fact, have their own prices to pay. During the data gathering phase, the person designing an expansion to an existing wireless network has to pay particular attention to inventory legacy systems that may be required to be incorporated into the new network and to carefully document the consequences (if any) of leaving such legacy systems in place. Possible consequences are the point of this lab where we will examine what happens to an 802.11g installation when a legacy 802.11b node becomes a part of the network and then leaves. Objective Compare the total achievable WLAN throughputs measured in a mixed 11b/11g WLAN and in an all-11g WLAN to study the performance degradation in 11g WLANs that support legacy nodes. TCO 7 Given a wireless network containing one or more commonly reported problems, propose methods to diagnose and repair the network. Methodology • Create a wireless LAN where all the stations and access point are operating at the 11g data rate of 54 Mbps. • Make the stations generate traffic that is heavy enough to saturate the network to measure the highest aggregate throughput achieved in that 11g wireless LAN. • Make all this traffic to flow in the uplink direction (i.e., to a destination that is......

Name the three default views of Chanalyzer 3.4 that display RF activities from different perspectives. 2. Explain what hardware and software are required in this iLab to capture and visualize RF activities. Task 2: Observing RF Activities Students are not required to capture RF activities on the spectrum in this iLab. Four capture files are provided for students to observe and identify RF activities instead. 1. From the Course Shell, download Week3iLabCaptureFiles.zip to a working directory of a computer. Right click on the .zip file, click Extract All to unzip its contents into a directory with the same name. 2. Go to http://lab.devry.edu, and launch the Chanalyzer program in the Citrix environment. 3. In the Chanalyzer window, click File and Open Recording to locate/open the first capture file: Capture1.wsr. Let the recording run for at least five minutes, and answer the following questions in your lab report. 4. There are three non-overlapping channels on the 2.4 GHz band: 1, 6, and 11. Move the cursor over each of the 11 channels shown on the horizontal axis. What channel(s) currently in use overlap with other channels? 5. To rectify the problem in Step 4, to which channel would you move that overlapping device or access point? 6. In the......

Netw410 Week 3 Ilab

...NETW410 Week 3 Lab Report Lab 3: Designing the Infrastructure for the Network Lab Report 1. Draw a diagram of the new network. (10 points) 2. Will the current horizontal cabling suffice for the new network? If it will not, what type of cable should be used for the horizontal cabling? Provide detailed specifications for this cable. (10 points) No, this is CM rated cable, which may not be installed in the plenum space. CMP rated cable is needed. The new cable should be solid copper, 24 AWG, 100 balanced twisted-pair (UTP) Category 5e cables with four individually twisted-pairs, which meet or exceed the mechanical and transmission performance specifications in ANSI/TIA/EIA-568-C.2 up to 100 MHz for installation in a plenum space; or solid copper, 22 AWG to 24 AWG, 100 balanced twisted-pair (UTP) Category 6 cables with four individually twisted-pairs, which meet or exceed the mechanical and transmission performance specifications in ANSI/TIA/EIA-568-C.2 up to 250 MHz for installation in a plenum space. 3. Should fiber optic horizontal cabling be installed but not terminated as future proofing for a future higher-speed network? What is the cost difference between copper UTP cable and fiber optic cable? Use this model to compute the relative cost—http://www.fols.org/cost_model/ (10 points) The FOLS model will show that the cost of installed fiber optic cable is about the same as copper cable. What it omits, as does the common argument for fiber to...
