A Trip of a Lifetime

Is this really happening? Are we actually here? No, we can’t be…, but we are. If you were to tell me two years ago that I would go on this trip, that I would be there, and see the place in person, I would have laughed and think that you were crazy. I look back at it now, still wondering if I actually went there. It was that amazing, that I still question it, even though it happened almost a year ago. I will tell this story, the story of my trip to the bloody battle fields that held hundreds of soldiers, where you can still feel the sorrow of the deaths, where you might hear battle cries, and even see those famous blue and grey uniforms on ghostly soldiers. Gettysburg! It all started with my mother talking about some insane idea to go on a trip back east. She said that we would someday go on this trip, maybe within year or two. I thought it was never going to happen. Three months later, those months filled with talk about it, my mom told me that we would go in April. I could hardly believe what she was telling me. I didn’t believe it so much, that, on April first I thought she was going to say, “April Fools! We aren’t really going on the trip”. That never happened though, and before I knew it we were going on the long plane and train ride. Yes, I said planes and trains. This trip consisted of all transportations, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. It was really crazy. We even time traveled! Well, not really, but when we were in the plane we crossed some vortex that sent us three hours in the future. Other than that, the traveling part of it was really boring. We landed in Baltimore, Maryland. I couldn’t believe that we were on the other side of the county. It all looked the same, it really confused me. After gathering my thoughts and realizing where I was. I and my mother needed to find the…...

Case Study Number 1

...1. The changes in the Canadian market for oil pump motors are based around the new pricing of electricity, which now depends on motor size. This has a big impact on oil companies. Not only will they be more likely to purchase lower horse powered motors, but also they will be able to save a vast amount of money by doing this. If a company now decides to buy a 7.5-hp motor as oppose to a 10-hp motor, then they will be saving $38.75 per month and in just 19 months the company will recoup the cost of a new motor. Additionally if the company decides to buy a 5-hp motor as oppose to a 10-hp motor, then the oil company will be able to save $75 per month, and in just 8 months, they will be able to recoup the cost of a new motor. If an oil company were looking to purchase brand new motors then they would be looking at a price of $1,045 per 5-hp motor, $1,200 per 7.5-hp motor, or $1,580 for a 10-hp motor. I would say that this has a hammer affect on the industry for multiple reasons. First of all, this would encourage oil companies like Hamilton to purchase motors with lower horse powers rather than higher power motors (10-hp) not only because of how much savings they will have as listed previously above, but because of the penalization for having over-motoring motors. In addition this could affect the situation going on with Dominion and Hamilton because some of Dominion’s solution alternatives require boosting the starting torque, which could potentially increase the......

...He was a man of action, a man of war. Unlike his father he could stand the look of blood. In Umuofia’s latest war he was the first to bring home a human head.”(Page 8) Also, Reputation is extremely important to the men in the novel as well. The ankle bracelets men wear that signify the number of titles they have earned publicly denote personal reputation. Reputation is based on merit; men gain reputation through bravery in battle, skill at wrestling, and hard work as seen through the size of their yam harvest. Reputation earns men positions of power and influence in the community as well as numerous wives. Okonkwo is extremely concerned with reputation because he grew up with a father who was shameful and lazy which I stated before. “For showing matchless courage and prowess on the battlefield, Ezeudu is revered throughout the clan. His reputation garners him great respect.”(Page 35) From these two examples you see that violence is something that is smiled upon in this town and it really makes the type of men you are. As for Okonkwo just to avoid the lifestyle his father lived he believes that violence is the answer. And as for the reputation, in this town again violence seems like the number one way to earn respect or for most of the men find a wife. Social rank and relative wealth plays great roles in determining a person’s destiny in Umuofia society and this also plays apart in why there is so much violence. One of the main conflicts in Things Fall Apart is the clash......

...Case: Magrec Inc. 1. Place yourself in the role of the manager. What should you do now? After considering what happened, would you change any of your behaviors? I would let a day pass and then request another meeting with Dinah indicating a sincere desire to work through the matter and the need to come to an understanding and agreement of how to work together and with the team moving forward. At that meeting, I would start off and thank Dinah for bringing the Partco matter to my attention. I would communicate with Dinah that I respect her strong feelings and beliefs behind her actions regarding the Partco matter but indicate that if she felt that strongly about the action step I planned to take, that she should have spoken again with me or another manager within our company instead of contacting the customer direct. She should know that by going directly to the customer with the matter the way she did cause a ripple effect in the customer base and consequently, the company has suffered great financial hardship. I would suggest to her that we could have addressed the matter with Partco in a way that would have made them aware of our mistake, offer recompense and still keep our relationship with Partco in tact without affecting the existing customer base. 2. Do you think Dinah was right? Why or why not? If you were she and you had to do it all over again, would you do anything differently? If so, what and why? I do think Dinah was right. Dinah brought Pat the file......

Beyond the Numbers 1-3

...Accounting 101Essay Homework: Beyond the Numbers 1-3 In the scenario given for this problem, the parties potentially affected by this audit and the fee plan proposed are the management for Allnet Company, Craig Thorne, as well as Craig Thorne’s public accounting firm. Since ethics is are accepted standards that determine good or bad behavior, there is a few ethical factors here that needs to be taken into consideration. According to the textbook “the preferred path is a course of action that avoids casting doubt on one’s decision”. In this scenario, Allnet’s management suggested that the fee range for Craig Thorne’s audit services of their financial statement be dependent on the reported profit of their company. This should immediately throw a red flag for Craig Thorne and his public accounting firm because his audit findings would less likely be trusted since his pay as an auditor have a direct correlation with the client’s success. All three components that composes the Fraud Triangle presents itself in this proposition. An Opportunity to commit fraud, possible Pressure or incentive to commit fraud because of the suggested fee arrangement, and Rationalization or attitude might surface into Craig Thorne’s mind and his judgment for the criminal nature of this act might be clouded due to false visions of affluence. With all of the above factors being said, I would not recommend Mr. Thorne to accept this audit fee arrangement because there is just too much......

...Elijah Cox October 24, 2015 Short Paper #1: Ethical Dilemma Elijah Cox Professor Brandon Cohen BMGT 110 October 28, 2015 Short Paper #1: Ethical dilemmas and decision making is one of the most important aspects in business. Business owners will be confronted with situations where they must make a decision that could affect their company or individuals in your company. Most of the time there is no right or wrong answers, and most of the time they will be stuck in the middle. What makes ethical dilemmas particularly difficult is that they often involve conflicts between two or more deeply held beliefs. Employers and employees have a responsibility in every ethical situation, it should always start with the organization and how the conduct themselves. Let’s go over an example of an ethical dilemma and how they should deal with this dilemma. Angela’s is faced with an ethical dilemma. She was very helpful to her friend Carla and her nephew by helping him get a position with WellCare USA. Carla is very grateful, and Jaden is as well. Jaden is very happy with his current situation him and his wife are about to put a down payment on their first house. Angela is aware that a decision has been made to transfer that same position that Jaden is hoping to get. ...Critical Analysis Gerald Holt English 216 Liberty University Ode to a Lyrical Masterpiece Introduction Creative writing is seen by many as a way to free the expression of the mind, allowing anyone who feels the urge to put their thoughts on paper can do so. There are a large number of people who have lived throughout time that have had their legacy live forever through their writing because they were able to eloquently configure their thoughts in a manner to reach others. Writing in literature has stretched over many long periods since the beginning of time and that could easily be established by taking note that the Bible is the highest selling book of all time. The Bible may have not been written all at one time, but the majority of the works and its authors were mainly from the same time period. Writing has gone through different ages where the majority of writers had the same idea, or style of writing that they wanted to focus on. Some of the ages of writing that had a strong influence on literature as a whole were that of the neoclassical and romantic age of writing. One piece of literature in particular that has been the topic of many discussions is the “Ode to a Nightingale”. This piece of artwork has been under much scrutiny for its lyrical anatomy, and it has also received much praise for its elegance in form. This short poem has given the world of literature much to discuss all the way down to when it was actually written and how many pages it was originally...

...Planned Parenthood facilities failed to report sexual abuse and statutory rape to law enforcers for children under the age of 18. Their loyalty is not towards the law, it is towards these under-aged girls and middle-aged women that pay them. In fact, many people would be surprised to know that clinics, such as Planned Parenthood, make an incredible amount of money, most of it coming from taxpayers. In the years 2005-06, they took in nearly 1 billion dollars and $55 million in surplus, about one-third coming from government subsidies. Basically, the government pays millions of dollars to doctors to take the lives of unborn children. The abortion industry has become a big marketing business, having supplies sent from other nations and demanding goods from all over the nation. It is a large waste of the government’s money, of our money, and its needs add to our economic drowning.
Religious concepts highly interfere with the abortion process. The Christian church specifically prohibits abortions. They use passages such as Psalm 139:13-16 and Luke 1:44 to reveal the personhood of an embryo or fetus. God refers to a child in its mother’s womb several times, meaning that that child is a living person awaiting life on Earth. Therefore, aborting any child, unless for safety issues, is murder and the law should recognize it that way. The Catholic Church is even more known for having a wide say in abortions. The church teaches that abortions are “grave sin[s] against the natural law”.......
