Descriptive Essay

...Mr. Stevenson has just come home from a terrible tiring day at work. The first thing he does, after taking off his tie and shoes, is plop down on the couch and turn on the television. Does this sound like a normal routine? It should, because Mr. Stevenson’s action is repeated by millions around the world. People use television to relax and forget about daily troubles. However, what started out decades ago as an exciting, new type of family entertainment is currently being blame for problems, especially in children. Many researchers now claim that too much television is not good for kids. They have a point; watching too much TV often does have negative effects on youngsters. One negative effect of TV on kids is laziness. Nowadays kids do not think that outdoor activities are as entertaining as a TV show can be. In the commodity of the couch they can pass hours and hours without moving even a finger watching TV. On the other hand, if they go to play outside it requires physical activity and a little bit of imagination; it can be too hot or too cold. Staying inside watching TV is not a hard option. Attention, imagination, or physical effort is not a requirement anymore if you they want to pass a good time. It is very simple, just stay home, lie on the couch and with a remote control in hand, hours and hours will pass without even noticing. Another negative point about TV watching is that it may cause children to have difficulty distinguishing between what is......

Clear Concise Communication

...Clear Concise Communication Before anything is sad, communication has already begun. Upon entry of the room, the awaiting students can typically see the type of day you’ve been you’ve made it to your predetermined group. The manner in which react to your groups destination can be prejudged on how you inadvertently take a deep inhale and plop down into your chair. A person with negative energy can possibly put a damper in the group project. Depending the on the individuals in the group and how productive they would or wouldn’t like the activity to go. Someone may address that particular issue, “Hey, is everything ok??” Being sympathetic to someone that may be in need of someone to talk or maybe even vent to. Then again, there may be others that won’t even blink towards them because they don’t deal well with those types of “situations.” Regardless of the approach, the positive or negative demeanor, the way the person carries his or herself, or the “over the top” response to a general question. These are all different types of communications that can affect a successful group function or at least the attempt at having a successful one. This leads me to my small business idea called “Clear Concise Communication.” It a guidance program for management level, lower level, and group workshops. It delivers a platform of how to read an employee and various ways to approach them and their situations. Gives management a different way to deliver a negative “blow” to an employee, a......

Motel Pool

...ffThe Motel Pool Thesis: The author explores the simple event of children playing in a pool, to implicitly personify images of birth, apocalypse and rebirth which connect to the birth and destruction of our world. | “The plump good-natured children play in the blue pool: roll and plop, plop and roll;” * This line depicts the innocence of the children which allows you to see the images of the world when it was once pure and blue; the blue pool is the world * The roll and plop, plop and roll this describes the creation of the world and the living beings in it slide and tumble, oiled, in the slippery sun silent as otters, turning over and in, * “Oiled in the slippery sun” the sun represents happiness and brightness and the slide and tumble shows how humanity progressing in the world. It is basically a progression in age and knowledge through bright times * “Silent as otters” Here you can see a simile being used. It represents a comparison to the world being calm and peaceful. “Turning over and in” are the otter doing tricks which represents how humanity is obtaining great knowledge churning the water; or-seamstresses-cut and sew with jackknives its satins invisibly. * Churning the water shows how the children are having fun but annoyingly causing ripples and waves that they can’t take back. This shows how humanity makes objects to better their lives but have harmful effects on the earth * “or-seamstresses-cut and sew with jackknives its satins......

5 Lessons from a Dog

...5 Lessons from a Dog In Secrets of a Working Dog by Ellen Galvin and Patrick Galvin, Bella the Boxer outlines these canine principles of success in this dog-eat-dog world. Dogs have a protocol for playtime. When they’re ready to play, they stick their butts in the air, plop their front legs on the ground and prick up their ears. Take some time out of your day to unwind, but take the necessary steps to ensure that it’s scheduled productive play, not simply a waste of time. Become a better listener by wagging your tail more than your tongue. Great listening skills is an integral part of being a good communicator and leader. Many times, a frustrated individual just needs someone to listen to them, not necessarily to offer advice. Learn what your audience’s listening needs are to lend an open ear. Assemble your pack. The most successful people are those who surround themselves with a network of colleagues, mentors and good friends. And if you don’t want to catch any fleas, a good place to start is to surround yourself with people whose habits you would like rubbed off on you. “There are two kinds of people—those who come in a room and say, ‘Well, here I am’ or those that come in a room and people say “There you are.” Dogs are great at making us feel needed and valued, a trait we should learn to pass on to coworkers, employees or family. Enjoy the simpler things in life. Whether it’s taking the time to sniff the flowers or enjoying the wind in a car ride, dogs have a genuine...

Story

... The crow flew from one place to another looking for water to drink. He finally found a pitcher near a well. But there was only little water in the pitcher. He tried to drink from the pitcher but no matter how much he tried, he could not reach the water. “My beak is too big. The pitcher’s neck is very narrow. How will I get the water?” he thought. (Have the pupils predict: What do you think will the crow do so he could reach the water in the pitcher?) Then an idea came to the crow. He picked up some small stones. He dropped them into the pitcher one by one. (Have the pupils predict: After he had dropped some stones into the pitcher, what do you think will happen?) “One, two, three…” Plop, plip, plop. Little by little, the water rose in the pitcher. “Four, five, six…” Plop, plip, plop. The water rose some more. Soon the crow could reach the water. “Now, I can drink!” said the crow. “Ah! It’s cold and good!” Discussion Questions: 1. At the beginning of the story, what did the thirsty crow do? 2. Where did he find water? 3. Could he drink right away? Why not? 4. How do you think the crow felt when he could not drink? 5. What did the crow do then? 6. If you were the crow, what would you do? 7. What happened when he dropped stones into the pitcher? 8. How did the crow feel in the end? Why? 9. Do you think he is a smart crow? Why? 10. In what way can you be smart like the crow? Efficacy of T’ai Chi

...leisure, which differs from traditional exercise therapy approaches used in the clinic. Recently, a new study examined the effectiveness of Tai Chi in decreasing pain and disability and improving physical function and quality of life in people with chronic musculoskeletal pain. The study is published in the June issue of Arthritis Care & Research - 2 - [no notes on this page]I practice T’ai chi, and one of the reasons is that it’s been documented via controlled studies to be effective preventive medicine for many of the chronic health problems Americans tend to get as they get old. You can treat those same problems with drugs, to be sure, if you’re willing to risk the side effects, but again, you can’t just pop a T’ai chi pill and plop yourself back down on the sofa. You’ve got to put in at least fifteen minutes of practice a day, every day, to get any serious health benefits out of it. (I do more like forty-five minutes a day, but then I’m not just practicing it for health.) It takes time and effort, and if you’ve spent a lifetime damaging your health and turn to T’ai chi when you’re already seriously ill, it’s unlikely to do the trick. (Blogspot.com/salvaging-health, the Archdruid report) I don’t know very much about T’ai chi at all, but from the research that I have done it seems like a really great natural route for many......

Descriptive Essay

...and stuck all to my clothes. The dough is always sticky and not easy to mix up. When I finally get it all mixed in, it looks like there will never be enough to make the cinnamon rolls. I put a damp towel over the bowl and try to wait patiently to see if it will do its magic and triple in size. Of course, I go back every little bit just to check and see what’s going on. The first few times there is very little change, so I decide to wait the full two hours to see if it will grow to full size. I finally pull the towel back, and the dough is so big it’s sticks to the towel. YES!!! It’s time to start rolling it out and making them into something yummy. I clean my surface good and then flour it well so that the dough doesn’t stick. Plop the dough out of the bowl onto the table and start rolling it out. Once it is completely rolled out, I melt a stick of butter in the microwave to pour over the dough. I brush it evenly all over, and if it runs over the doughs edge it’s not a problem because it just gets on the edge of the dough. Then I spread brown sugar all over. Now I’m not chintzy with it AT ALL!!! And finally I sprinkle cinnamon on top of all the brown sugar. The brown sugar and cinnamon just make the rolls what they are so you can’t skimp on either. After all the ingredients are on, just roll the dough and ingredients up like a log or pumpkin roll. Then cut it into one inch slices and put each one in a greased pan right next to each other. Leave them in the......

...and I also learned they secrete intestinal juice, which is a mixture of enzymes that breakdown carbohydrates and proteins; and they also secrete mucus that helps neutralize chyme.  From this I found out there are three parts to the small intestine the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum. Wow there are so many parts to this little girl’s body it is unbelievable.  I am then pushed into the large intestines.(Absorption) In the large intestines the remaining water in me is absorbed. Now my name has changed again from chyme it goes to bile, and bile is stored in the liver, and in the gallbladder. After all this the pancreas helps breakdown carbohydrates, proteins, and nucleic acid. From there I am passed to the rectum and defecated out of the anus. Plop! Ember

...Screenplay EXT. DESERT - DAY Ember, a 22 year old with burnt orange eyes and long brown hair held up in a pony tail, combs over the sand with a metal detector and shuffles around to the music playing from a radio off screen. The sand covered radio is sitting on the pulled down tailgate of a Grey Ford Ranger coated with even more sand. RADIO And that was Bustin Jiebers new hit song Condolences. Before we go to commercial break I would just like to give a friendly reminder to keep an eye on the sky this week for the annual meteor shower. If you missed last nights sky show, no need to wory because it will be going on all week.. Ember clicks off the radio and plops down onto the bed of the truck. She wipes the sweat from her forehead and take a swig of water from the cantine sitting behind the radio. Ember lays down in the truck and stares into the cloudless blue sky. She notices a small red dot int he sea of blue and squints to try and get a clearer look at what it is. The dot seems to be getting bigger ever so slightly and then her eyes begin to widen. The dot was actually something hurteling down from the sky. Ember jerks back up to her feet and starts sprinting with her metal detector away from the car as the object crashes down into her truck right were she was lying. EMBER My truck! Ember tries to walk closer but a small explosion fromt he crash erupts and nocks her to the ground as she covers her face from the heat of the fire and......

1984 Apple Marketing

...its time. Addressing social issue of conformity and government control that were big in the 1980’s with the USSR expanding. The principles of 1984 were close to people’s minds. It had an unheard of budget of $900,000. It was a time before Microsoft dominance were IBM was the big competitor in the computing game. Apple in that era pushed innovation through there graphic design interface. Where IBM pushed boring boxes for computers. The 1984 was highly successful with over 3.5 million dollars of Macintoshes were sold after the ad ran; Although Apple 1984 is a great commercial and used and innovative approach that was not seen before in marketing it is not the greatest. It was only aired twice. Other commercials like Where Is the Beef? Or Plop Plop Fizz Fizz or Coke Big Joe Green have much more play time and a better overall return on investment, having spinoffs. Apples commercial has not aged well because they don’t sell Macintosh anymore and their symbol has completely changed. Where where’s the Beef? Is still relevant. Having a much lower cost of production and played over and over again. Apple movie was like a master piece that did well at the box office not amazing. It is like Shawshank redemption a critically acclaimed movie. Maybe the best of all time but not the most profitable for the movie studios. Great cinematically and innovative using new marketing techniques but did not provide the best return. 2. For me the best Commercial was Cokes Big Joe Green. It......

Motel Pool

...I have decided to analyze Motel Pool by: P.K Page. This poem relates to me the best because the topic is about summer and paints a picture about the season through the use of words. This poems imagery, metaphors etc. successful create and illustrate an interesting story for this poem. The author’s choice of words is interesting when describing the image of summer. This sentence “The plump good-natured children play in the blue pool: roll and plop, plop and roll;” sticks to me the most with imagery. It points out that kids are like plump shaped; meaning the kids have a rounded form assuming that they are out of shape since she is referring to them “as otters”. In an overall look at this poem it has strong words that helps me paint a picture; another example of that would be “Not beautiful, but suddenly limned with light; their elliptical wet flesh in a flash reflects it” this sentence uses words like, “limned” (depiction) of the light helps to see the “elliptical” (round) wet “flesh”, assuming its mentioning the obese kids earlier having fun in the summer weather. And finally the last sentence in the poem relating to summer: “and it greens the green grass, greens the hanging leaf; greens Adam and Eden, greens little Eve.” Mentioning green grass and the Adam and Eden reference creates and depicts a beautiful vivid picture about the feel. The poem does a good job of creating imagery, metaphors, etc. to help create a stunning poem about summer....
