WC: 807 The Men of Color Degree Completion and Retention Plan has emerged a rather new, University-wide initiative designed to retain and graduate more first generation, low-income and culturally underrepresented men of color at EMU. The key component of this effort is the “BrotherHOOD Initiative”, where the “HOOD” stands for “Help Others Obtain Degrees”. This initiative is designed to engage and foster a stronger community for men of color at EMU. The BrotherHOOD aims for the brothers to interact with people from diverse backgrounds, graduate with a degree, and improve the conceptions of men of color.
Through participation in the BrotherHOOD programs, the brothers will be able to develop and maintain healthy, mutually beneficial relationships. They will also be able to develop and articulate plans to achieve individual short and long-term academic, professional and personal goals. Gregory Thomas said “It’s crucial for our brothers to be able to communicate what they need effectively so we’ll be able to provide what they’ll need in a timely manner”. Gregory is the mentor and success coach of the brothers in the program, which is one of the many services that the program has to offer. Other services available to men of color who participate in this program include academic support, leadership development, intervention initiatives and campus awareness. Brandon Britt is involved with student affairs and he says “I will do everything in my power to make sure these young men receive everything they need in order to complete their degree within 4-5 years”.
The program is a first-year, 12 month capacity building project, which will research the impact of environmental factors as well as strategies for degree completion and the measure of impact of implementing the strategies for…...

In this paper there will be discussions on Walmart strategic initiative program and the effectiveness of it. Walmart is not only a leader in retail but leads concerning energy savings and conservation. Walmart has taken advantage of technology as it relates to renewable and perpetual resources such as the sunlight, solar panels, and wind. Not only does Walmart show that it is environmentally conscience, but also reinforces it is focus on the customer by strengthening productivity and reduce expenses with the “Powered by Walmart” initiative and at the same time to keep providing service for its customers and profits for its shareholder. Strategic Initiatives a completion of a strategic initiative. As indicated with any acquisition there is associated risk such as, disruptions to the business, operational losses and expenses of the acquired business, and incorporating the acquired business into the Starbucks line of business. “Adding Evolution Fresh to our brand portfolio fulfills our commitment to health and wellness, and not just by bringing high-quality premium juices to our customers but by extending the Evolution Fresh brand to an exciting new store concept. With Evolution Fresh™ juice products currently in more than 2,200 Starbucks® stores as well as 1,500 grocery locations, we are on our way toward nationwide distribution” (SBUX 2012 Annual Report Final, 2013). One strategic initiative listed in the 2012 Annual report “timely completing certain supply chain capacity expansion initiatives, including increased roasting capacity and construction of a new soluble products plant and a new Evolution FreshTM plant” (SBUX 2012 Annual Report Final, 2013). The lists of strategic initiatives are listed on the annual report with a disclaimer that if Starbucks is unsuccessful in implementing the strategic plan it could have an adverse reaction to the business and financial results. The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood

...The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, founded in autumn 1848, was an original artistic response to the revolutionary outbursts of the time in continental Europe. The mysterious letters “P.R.B.” features on the paintings of the young and completely unknown artists caused a stir in the English society. This group was comprised of London’s Academy students including John Everett Millais, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, and William Holman Hunt, each of whom was eager to change not only the principles of modern art but also the role it played in society. Combining scientific precision, an innovative approach to subject matter, and brilliant, clear colors, Pre-Raphaelitism was Britain's first avant-garde art movement. The members of the Brotherhood were well aware of their place in the culture with non-existent traditions of religious art, which had been obliterated in the 16th century during the Reformation. The Pre-Raphaelites were faced with an uneasy task – to revive religious art without employing the canonical imagery of altar paintings. Unlike the Renaissance masters, “P.R.B.” based their compositions not on imagination but on observations from everyday life. While the Pre-Raphaelites approached the Bible as a source of human drama and searches for literary and poetic meaning, they also addressed provocative narratives of modern life that employed religious iconography. Their compositions, focused on social issues and daily activities, often grew into parables, demonstrating how the......

...Initiative means to have the ability to assess and initiate things independently. It means to take initiative when someone needs something done but they don't want to ask for help, you can take initiative and do it yourself. I define initiative by doing what you think is best for you and helping out others around you because it is right to treat people the way you want to be treated. Initiative is the ability to act and make decisions without the help or advice of other people. Initiative is the first step in a process that, once taken, determines subsequent events it is also a plan or strategy designed to deal with a particular problem. Initiative is a favourable position that allows somebody to control events. I have demonstrated initiative on the job by asking the teacher if she needs any help towards any school work or preparation for the next class. I can also show initiative by being prepared for class, ask questions when needed clarification, and always ask if the teacher needs help in any department. I pass time by walking around the classroom checking if students are on task and not waisting their time doing stuff they should not be doing. I also help with an autistic student in the classroom, I take him to the library so that no one can bother him while trying to do work, and he focus' better when no one is around. I also pass time helping out with volleyball practices and game to get a better understanding of other roles you can play while being a teacher, it takes...

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood Review

...Assassin's Creed Brotherhood review Introduction After the success of the first two games in the Assassin's Creed series, Ubisoft has released their highly anticipated game. Introducing a new setting, new characters, and new challenges, and an all new multiplayer mode, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood tries to raise the bar for the series. Story Brotherhood is set in the Italian renaissance, and it follows the character from Assassin's Creed 2, Ezio Auditore da Firenze. The game is set in multiple cities, including Rome, Venice, and Florence. Following his family's death, he is out for vengeance. Ezio is part of the brotherhood, meaning he is an assassin and serves to protect their order. The missions include taking out targets and helping others, all while on his personal quest. We would definitely recommend playing Assassin’s Creed 2 first, therefore, you will fully understand the story. The story continues progressing into something very big that we will not spoil in the review, but we can mention you will be in contact with Leonardo da Vinci, and you get to try out some of his inventions. (Hint, it might contain a human flight machine.) Gameplay Perhaps the best thing about the Assassin's Creed series is the gameplay. You are able to go wherever you want within the cities-- climbing buildings, jumping into haystacks, running around the streets, rowing gondolas, and even riding horses! You have so much freedom inside the game, and it opens up so many doors and......

Brotherhood of War

...Harriet Anne O. Torres September 28, 2014 ABIS -4 IS 44 XC THE BROTHERHOOD OF WAR The war erupted in1950 between South Korea and North Korea. One male in every family has to serve the army in order to protect South Korea from North Communist. It was a deadly battleground where your only choice is to kill or be killed, with no food or water it was a total test of survival for the soldiers. Bullets were flying everywhere that even in their sleep they have to wear their helmets and guns with them in case the enemies attack. Some soldiers die due to infections and complications as to their wounds because of the lack of medical tools and procedures conducted during the war. Innocent citizens were also affected due to their political ideology as to being a democrat or a communist. They were being slaughtered in groups that had caused thousands of innocent lives who were merely accused of being a communist just by attending rallies in order to get food. Later on , Reinforcement came with the aid from the United States that had caused South Korea’s victory from their first encounter with the North. The Chinese Army had also supported the North Korean’s which had led for South Armies to deploy their mission and another attack had occurred which was led to the end of Korean War. After the war, the citizens are trying to cope up with the loss they have and see......

...Initiative 1: Use the expectancy theory to motivate the staffs. Perry says he was not averse to sharing profit to his staffs but he does not know how to sharing the profit equally to them. As well as he wants to adopt the consultant’s suggestion to increase the percentage of the collections. However he also worried about the mediocre ones cannot get the enough rewards; besides, he wanted to know why this option could improve staffs’ motivation. (1) We recommend Perry to use the Expectancy Theory. We believe this theory can solve Perry’s problem well and responds to his concern. “Expectancy theory is based on the premise that a person will be motivated to put forth a higher level of effort if they believe their efforts will result in higher performance and thus better rewards”(“Vroom’s Expectancy”, n.d.). The first step must to know the staffs’ expectancy; one-on-one meeting will be a good method to get a better understanding of the staffs and let the staffs know what will relate to their expectancy. “Expectancy is the faith that better efforts will result in better performance”(Expectancy Theory of Motivation, n.d.). Time Frame and Scope of Difficulty: 3 months, Medium Difficulty (2) Instrumentality, it means staffs gain reward or get punishment depend on their performance (Theories of Motivation, n.d.). Thus, we suggest that Perry may build a satisfactory set of records, which is used to record the staffs’ performance. As well as the record system must to be......

Change Initiative

...Change Initiative Paper Cynthia D. Sanchez Grand Canyon University: LDR 615 November 4, 2014 Change Initiative Paper It has been said that the only thing that is constant in an organization is change. Our global economy has escalated the opportunities for growth at an exponential rate. But, for an organization to remain relevant and competitive in today’s marketplace, they must be willing to change. How do real-work organizations implement and sustain successful change? Two important patterns have been identified for success: “first, useful change tends to be associated with a multi-step process that creates power and motivation sufficient to overwhelm all the sources on inertia”, and second, this process is never employed effectively unless it is driven by high quality leadership” (Kotter, 1996, p. 20-21). Strategic planning, which should include identifying the change model to be followed, outlining the role of leadership, and planning for how to overcome potential barriers and sustain the change, all play a vital role in a successful change initiative. The purpose of this paper is to first identify a specific organization that could benefit from a change initiative that would improve their effectiveness, and then outline strategies and processes that would influence the adoption of the change initiative. The Need for Change The Army Nurse Corps has a program geared toward new graduate Registered Nurses (RNs) that are entering the military health care system......

National Initiatives

...Assess the influence of a recent national policy initiative promoting anti discriminatory practice Every Child Matters (2003) The national policy initiative that I’m going to assess is Every Child Matters (2003). The important point of this national initiative is extending in services to improve children’s life and help them with life problems. This policy focuses the needs for services, including schools and social workers and health professionals to work more closely to protect and support the need and rights of all children. Eight years old Victoria Climbie died from Hypothermia after months of abuse at the hands of her foster- carer and great aunt and her partner Carl John Manning. Victoria visited health and social care settings many times during her being abused and she was complete discharged whit no members of staff questioning her marks on her arms and legs and how she broke her leg. Also due to her race she had dark skin colour and therefor bruising was not as apparent. The poor 8 year old went through complete torture and abuse for many years of her life and the health and social care services failed her so many times. Following Victoria’s death, the Home Office and the Department of Health invited Lord Laming who is very well known to work with social services and child protection came to a deduction that there had been to many deaths of young children who have suffered abuse and been neglected by the health and social care services. The Act Every......

...Brotherhood is generally defined as a state of being between males who share the inherited make-up of one or both parents. There have been many instances where males who shared a parent did not have a true brother—after all, Cain killed Able. Genuine brotherhood goes far beyond genetics. True brothers encompass unconditional loyalty, trust, and love. In a brotherly relationship, loyalty is essential. Brothers are faithful to one another, they are steadfast. No thing, no person, and no word can break the bond between them because of their steadfast commitment to preserve their relationship against all odds. Loyalty in one’s brother outlasts and outweighs minor disagreements and misunderstandings. Most importantly, loyalty in a brotherhood breeds trust, which is essential in every serious relationship. Trust is so hard to gain, yet so easy to lose. It requires time and effort, two steps that many people neglect to take in building relationships. However brotherhood is different, brotherhood hinges on trust. Brothers trust one another with their innermost secrets, they trust in each other’s judgment on a range of issues, and they trust each other to “have one another’s back” through thick and thin. Moreover, trust is fundamental in creating the unconditional love on which a brotherhood depends. At first I wouldn’t relate “unconditional love to brotherhood”. But as I thought, I realized that unconditional love goes beyond romantic or parental love.  Building lasting......

Initiative in Business

...a manager and leader in the business world has motivated me to create a plan and take my own initiative and drive my team to be consistent in reaching the company goals, initiative on writing company processes and last but not least how, to bring a team together. Initiative is defined as, “The initiative to drive and achieve results” and i have made this definition a staple in my life. According to Kristie 2010, the list of quality that many company wants to train their leaders, “are not consistent--they contain all sorts of different characteristics.” (p.61). Companies have the urge to perform well however, they don’t spend the time needed in training leaders, helping leaders to reach the set goals to achieve a proficient level. Every goal has to be achieved and without initiative, the business will go nowhere. Even athletes have a lot of initiative to win the game and server as a example for me to always show initiative as a leader.” (Shukla, 2009). As indicated in Leadership 2006, “for business an executive, remaining calm in a crisis or situation is a key… However, executives often panic as though it is”. From this we can appreciate the right training, experience, and skill will make you a better leader Over my 7 years of leadership experience, I have been part of creating company processes and reaching out to other systems for better practice. I have learned that Initiative is a requirement , as the articles illustrate the ability to drive is required for a......
