...your own mind…” (page 184) but there has got to be limits somewhere. Emerson makes it seem like every single person in the world is good. Like when he says “[h]e who would gather immortal palms must not be hindered by the name of goodness, but must explore if it be goodness.” (page 184) But that’s not how it truly is. Some people just choose to do as everyone else around them does. They choose to join clubs that their friends join. They buy things that other people persuade them to buy. And they base their votes and Government participation on the views of others. People do this because they want to fit in with the group and they want to be like everyone else. From the story Self-Reliance Emerson says, “[w]e but half express ourselves, and are ashamed of that divine idea which each of us represents…” (page 184) because people are afraid to stand out and the are afraid of being judged for who they are. This causes them to forget who they are and to become just another face in the crowd. When Emerson says, “[t]o believe your own thought, to believe that what is true for you in your private heart it is true for all men,-that is genius,” (page 183) he is saying the same thing is me. People don’t react on their own opinions, they base they feelings on the opinions of the people around them. Another reason I don’t think people can live as complete individuals is because they are too lazy to be themselves. Like Emerson says in his story, “[i]t is easy in the world to live after......

This Life of Jesus Christ

...I had a life changing experience when I started going to church, and taking discipleship class. I developed a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, I learned to build Christlike character, and achieve spiritual victory. In my family going to church was something we did faithfully. I can remember as a little girl every Saturday and, Sunday we would have Morning Prayer at Grandmother’s house. I like going to church, but I didn’t like going every Sunday. When I was a teenager, I would tell myself, when I get older, and move away, I’m never going to church again. When I was eighteen I moved to Atlanta, and I did that exactly, I stopped going to church. At first it was good, I enjoyed my Sundays, working, relaxing, or just doing nothing. Some Saturday nights, I stayed out late, partied knowing that there would be no prayer or church first thing Sunday morning. I did this for many years went by, I didn’t attend church while living in Atlanta. Then one day I started feeling like something was missing from my life, I started missing going to church. First I had to find a church, one that I would enjoy praise, worship and the sermon. I sent out to find that church, and I did that. I went for a little while as a visitor and I joined church at Voices Of Faith. One Sunday, an announcement was made for discipleship class, I didn’t know what the class was about, but I was curious after church I spoke to a representative, and I signed up. Little did I know that the classes were......

“Life in the Sahel Is a Constant Battle to Survive; Use of This Region Can Never Be Sustainable”.

... Niger, Chand and Sudan. Life there due to the conditions is a constant battle to survive. Sustainability is the development of the quality of life that do not do any lasting damage to the environment. I would agree in saying that they Sahel is a constant battle to survive. The increase in population, which is currently at about 260 million and is going to double every 20 years, would mean that there will be a greater demand in food production. This would put pressure on the land to be more productive and this would lead to over-cultivation and over-irrigation. The climate has also made conditions worse and a constant battle to survive. There has been a decrease in rainfall of about 29-49% which would mean that they land is badly managed due to the lack of water. The average temperature of the region has increased meaning that desertification has increased by the increase of evapotranspiration which reduces ground and surface water supplies. Factors such as political instability would also mean that the government would probably spend more money going to war and buying arms rather than looking after its people. On the other hand I do not feel that the “use of this region can never be sustainable. There are strategies in which they help the people come together as a community to help with the management of the soil. The Eden project in Niger has been very sustainable and been at a great advantage in helping the people in the Sahel. This project provides tree......

This Road We Call Life

...This Road We Call Life Name School Class Teacher-word count Due date This Road We call Life Boy Meets World had so many great things going for it. It taught children life lessons without them having to learn the hard way and there being a possibility of ruining their lives forever. The show talked about real issues going on in the world, unlike many other television shows geared toward the same audience. The show even became emotional at times. Some people in the show were better off than others, but that did not matter to the characters. They all treated each other the same. This is an idea that should be instilled in all children across America. At the same time, the show could be funny and exciting. The success of the show, however, depended on the audience. It resonated so deeply with the generation that grew up with it because the characters grew and changed along with the audience. This Road We Call Life Colcord (1997) wrote, “When this Boy Meets World Boy Meets World Wandering down this road that we call life Is what we’re doin’ It’s good to know I have friends that will always Stand by me When this Boy Meets World” (ll. 1-7). This quote from the theme song of Boy Meets World demonstrates a good perspective to have on life. The themes of the show resonated with its audience because the characters face so many real-life situations and issues throughout the course of the show. Shawn, in particular, goes through many hard times and has to learn how to......

...the product is what it is selling for, but if I pay so much for the item I would like to have it around for a while. If I am able to have it around for a while then it’s worth the money. Clothes are like car, wanting something reliable to get to A to B, like warm than cold. So positioning the product as a product that stands its claim from advertisement to the closet or where ever they are placed is a claim that I would use to sell the product. If I can do this then a lot would not care about pricing, and place to get the items or products. Positioning something is hard because to many factors to worry about and choosing the right strategy to up lift the brand or product is important. I can see being worried about the price of a product or where to get the product but the product itself is what people want and people want a reliable product. The demographics these days are changing like the market changes. Being that demographics revolve around people because people make up the market as well, there are many views of this description or outlook of what the possibilities are allowing the market to become. When people are young they are usually were bought items, things they want and most the time it’s something that is new or what everybody seem to have, or just may have their own interest in a certain item. As people get older things change because they now want what they want and have to get it, which changes the market again as well. Peoples interest in items change as......

...of the other options, and I have trouble dealing with my frustration. The first step I could take in order to increase my emotional intelligence is focus my attention on my freedoms rather than my limitations. I need to be able to recognize what I can do in life rather than what I cannot. Instead of automatically getting a negative sense of behavior I need to focus on the positives in a situation. Negative behavior takes over and does not help in any situation. I must be capable of effectively looking at the things I can control in a situation, and using them to my advantage. The second step I could take in order to increase my emotional intelligence is to set aside some time in my day in order to problem solve. The multitude of emotions going through my brain on an average day prevents me from making the best possible decisions to issues that I come across. The only way to make a sound decision is to focus on one issue at a time, away from any distractions. I need to set a certain time in my day in order to just think about the issues and decision in my life that I am faced with. The last step I could take in order to increase my emotional intelligence is to breathe right, or in other words not make shallow breathes. This is vital in dealing with emotions because the brain uses oxygen to tackle all signals and issues that come through it. Taking deep breaths in stressful situations enables our rational portion of the brain to function more clearly. Deep breathing also aids......

This Journey We Call Love & Life

...MEMOIR This journey We Call Love and life Given the life that I’ve had over the past 25 yrs, I have done a lot, seen a lot & lived enough for any person my age. I haven’t always had the best love life, but I’ve had the most fun trying to have one. I went from that puppy love you have as teenager to a full on love affair with someone that I just can’t shake to save my life. If I would have known the things I know now back then, I would be somewhere else with someone else. This thing called love is very tricky. I started out as a teen with the man everyone on both sides of the family thought I would marry. We fooled everyone with our break up, even us. We were better off friends. Micah has a good heart, a good head on his shoulders & an excellent job, but that’s not what I was looking for or what I wanted. I truly couldn’t say what I wanted back then but I do know that good church boy was not it. So that ended & we both moved on with our lives. A few years later I met who I thought was the man for me. Donta was younger than me & he lived in another city. We went back & forth for a few years but that didn’t last. One very misleading night we decided to break away from the group & well one thing lead to another & I ended up with a very special gift. We ended up with a baby, we are both teenagers & we both didn’t know what to do with a baby. I found out fast just how hard it was to be a single mother. Donta wasn’t ready for this......

...ARJ/ST  2007‐07‐09  1  Employability in working life: Graduates’ expectations and possibilities after graduation Airi Rovio‐Johansson and Stefan Tengblad  Gothenburg Research Institute (GRI), School of Business. Economics and Law  at Göteborg University  Airi.Rovio‐Johansson@gri.gu.se  Stefan Tengblad@gri.gu.se    th  Nordic Academy of Management Conference,  Paper presented at the 19 August 9‐11, Bergen, Norway.  Abstract The aim of the study is to investigate graduates’ strategies and attitudes towards employability and career development, and to construct a tentative model of employability by identifying inherent factors. Four theoretical perspectives have been used to discuss the concept employability and the empirical results, i.e., the Human capital theory perspective, Institutional theory perspective, Critical theory perspective, and Actor theory perspective. The research project takes its point of departure in changes of the European and the Swedish labour market during recent years and the ongoing restructuring of Higher Education in Europe. A fundamental principle underlying these movements is the formulation of “Employability” as a thesis that aims at making the European Union the most dynamic and productive Higher Education Area and labour market. A higher degree of “employability” is attainable if the relation between the employee and the employer depend more on market based contracts limited in time, and where the employees are willing to take a......

You will need one computer per group to do the assignment. 1) Look up this trailer for the classic horror film The Shining (1980) on the internet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S014oGZiSdI Remember that trailers are meant to make people want to see the film. This film is obviously meant to scare the viewers, shock them, make them look away, maybe give them nightmares. My question is: Why on earth does this work for most people? Why do you think that we like horror movies? (Your answer must be about 100 words). Because the scare makes us exited, it’s something we dosen’t experience in everyday life and therefor it makes it more interesting, It releases some substances in the brain that makes you excited and happy. 2) Look up these two-sentence horror stories on the internet: http://justsomething.co/20-terrifying-two-sentence-horror-stories-that-will-make-you-hold-your-breath/ Now write your own two-sentence horror stories and pick the best two for your assignment He woke up, again. ...|Exercise 2: Proper Acknowledgement | Review the Summarizing, Paraphrasing, and Citing reading. Read the following paragraph: Decision making is a process by which several possibilities are considered and prioritized, resulting in a clear choice of one option over others. Decision making is a fact of life personally and in business. We make dozens of decisions each day. Some decisions are simple, while others are complex. Some are made for us while others require a great deal of analysis and thought. From what to wear to work to what computer system to choose to how to reward top performers to what movie to see, we use a variety of complex thought processes to make decisions from an array of options. Our ability to make decisions helps us to navigate through life, avoiding potential problems and expanding our horizons. Decision making plays a similar role in business. Decision making aids managers in identifying and selecting among potential opportunities, helping them solve immediate problems and make future problems more manageable. Good decision makers are those who are effective at processing information, assessing risks, and making choices that will have positive outcomes for their organization. • Source • Authors: S. C. ...Often we hear the phrase, "promote from within" as one of the best ways to expand the talent pool. Yet sometimes firms do not post internal openings for which anyone may apply.  Instead, they select someone to promote. Why might a firm do this and what drawbacks could result? On the other hand, some firms prefer to look outside the company to increase the talent pool, including posting information on social networking sites.  What are the benefits of using social media for recruitment? A firm might want to “promote from within” because the company wants to attract their employees. Every ones want to work for a company where they will have the opportunities of promotion. This will encourage people to work harder because they want to go up on that ladder of employment. Also, “promote from with in” helps company save time and money on hiring any position. Company will not have to pay the advertising fee, won’t have to read a bunch of applications, and won’t have to interview lots of people. Another plus thing is when you promote someone from with in, that person already knows well about the company and how things work, so they don’t have to spend a lot of times to learn about the company culture and stuffs, which may lowers their performance for the first couple weeks like employees that are hired from outside of the company might. So “promote from with in is a great way to strengthen your company with out having to spend too much to find the perfect candidates. However,......

...What is a penguin? Many people over the years have asked that question and found their answers by researching. Their finds have helped people answer that question. A penguin is a flightless bird. Flightless birds do not fly and do not use their wings other than to swim. Penguins spend most of their life in or near the ocean. Penguins waddle because of their incredibly short legs which are extremely close to their back. Some can toboggan to get around on patches of ice. Tobogganing is sliding on its stomach. It is a faster more effective way of getting around on the slippery ice and tightly packed snow. The body of a penguin is covered in short thick waterproof feathers. They are tall missile shaped animals with very short legs that cause them to waddle. Penguins can have a great range of color. Some colors they can be are: black and bluish gray with white or yellow undersides. Penguins live in cold areas and have thick layers of fat to keep warm. They also have a thick layer of long feathers underneath the short waterproof ones. Penguin’s beaks can be 4 different colors they are black, red, bright purple, and orange. Their feet are also very colorful they can be 3 different colors, black, blue , pink. They can range in size from 3"7 to 1"2. They are strangely shaped they have big heads and short necks , they have an elongated body wedged tails and webbed feet. Penguins have many different senses most of them are sharp and keen. They have great hearing which is......

...Highly Regulated Over recent years, military- derived sonar has been found to be linked with cetacean strandings. This and the general increase of noise in the ocean within the last century, which is known to have increased with the introduction of propeller ship engines (Jasny 12), has largely impacted the oceanic ecosystem. If such strong correlations have been scientifically determined, why has the United States Navy failed to adjust its practices in favor of saving marine organisms? How much evidence will suffice for the United States government to take necessary strides towards keeping our oceans safe? It is with this in mind that I claim that the U.S. Navy’s use of active sonar, whether it be mid or low frequency, needs to be more highly regulated. Therefore, government officials need to use their political power to support the marine species being affected by these anthropogenic noises. My first sub claim supporting my driving thesis will pertain to the negative impact sonar activity has on marine organisms. I will begin with the introduction of the importance of sound to the ocean’s mammals, the most prominent subjects of mid and low frequency sonar. This is an imperative aspect of this issue because the survival of every single one of these marine animals is based concretely in their specialized abilities to hear through the oceanic medium. With this I will present the scientifically supported fact that hearing in marine animals became established for an......

...beyond debates and discourse as the city council here is poised to declare MCC’s Myke Sotero and two others who officiated the wedding as persona non grata and is contemplating a case against them. “The same sex unions have only popularized the issue all the more,” said former Baguio chief prosecutor Erdolfo Balajadia, who now sits on the 14-member city council here. “I cannot see (the filing of a case having) any legal leg to stand on. It was a religious rite, not a civil rite that was officiated,” he said. Sotero said more and more couples are applying to be wed after the much-publicized weddings. This early, at least 50 couples from Manila have already expressed their desire to have their union solemnized. Fighting discrimination But lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender (LGBTs) are fighting back and highlighting discrimination as the main issue. “This is no longer about the mass wedding. It’s already about discrimination,” Carol Galvez of the Lesbian for National Democracy (LESBOND) said, vowing to bring the matter to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights if necessary. LESBOND echoed their call for an end to discrimination in the country, especially from the local government and certain religious groups. She argued that the Magna Carta for Women that “protects your mothers, wives, sisters and daughters” also protects them. The Baguio Pride Network (BPN), meanwhile, expressed alarm over the pronouncements of Baguio-Benguet Vicariate......
