...1. To what extent should your subordinates be involved in this decision? Sugar Substitute Research Decision: Medium involvement. Coast Guard Cutter Decision Problem: Low involvement 2. What factors led you to choose this alternative rather than the others? Sugar Substitute Research Decision: * Decision structure: no set decision process for such project. * Source of decision knowledge: Sugar substitute is beyond my technical expertise, but some of researchers are familiar with it. I do not know how much demand is expected for this product * Decision commitment: the budget for R&D department is limited, and they are short in resources as well. However, sugar substitute can be another huge source of company profit, and some level of participation in decision making will improve scientists and researchers to commit to the decision. * Risk of conflict: risk of conflict seems low since most researchers in R&D unit are committed to ensuring the company’s interests. Coast Guard Cutter Decision Problem: * Decision structure: no programmed procedures? * Source of decision knowledge: Both my team and I are experts. Communication is lost. Storm is severe. * Decision commitment: the crews have to follow the decision even though they don’t agree with it. Employee involvement is not necessary to improve commitment. * Risk of conflict: there may be some conflict between norms because the decision is critical to one’s life. 3. What......

...Federal Bureau of Investigation in 2011, men were charged with 6,299,269 offenses. Women, on the other hand, had a part in 2,203,165 charged offenses. Men accounted for almost three times as many crimes as women in one year (FBI, 2012). A person that is heavy in crime would likely not be favorable to innovative law enforcement methods such as canine tracking that can lead to higher arrest rates. Based on these statements, a hypothesis is generated that men more than women, and people within the ages of seventeen to twenty-four would be less supportive of the implementation and maintenance of a K-9 unit within a police department. In order to determine the relationship between age and support or gender and support a study must be carried out. To test the hypothesis, a survey was handed out to fifty people. Their responses were gathered and data was produced based on their submitted answers. Sample With over three hundred million people, it is very difficult to collect data from the entire country of the United States. Instead, the survey was distributed to people on the streets in southeast Michigan. There were no biases in handing out the surveys. All that was required was literacy. Fifty surveys were dispersed, but only twenty were returned. There was a wide variety of people polled. Many different races encompassed the results including Whites, African Americans, native Americans, and Hispanics. Age was also not a biasing factor. People from fourteen years old to......

...1. (20 pt) Go to http://www.stat.tamu.edu/~west/ph/sampledist.html. Use a skewed distribution. Take 1000 samples of sizes 2, 10 and 100. Construct a mean for each sample and look at the distribution of the sample means (third row). Record the mean and SD in the population for the original random variable. Make a table and record the mean of the means, and the standard deviation of the mean for each sample size (2, 10 and 100). For a bell-shaped distribution we showed that the mean of the sample means is very similar to the mean in the population for all population sizes. This is the property of unbiasedness. From your results, does the mean appear to be unbiased when the original distribution of the data is skewed? For a bell-shaped distribution we showed that the standard deviation of the mean, or the standard error of the mean, decreases with sample size. Is this true for skewed distributions? Calculate the standard error of the mean that is expected for each sample size and record in the table. How did the observed result compared to your calculation? * * Mean of the Population: 15.5297 * Median of the Population: 12.2861 * Standard Deviation of the Population: 12.5078 * * Sample Size | * Mean of the means | * Standard Deviation | * Standard Error of the Mean | * 2 | * 15.7741 | * 8.8115 | * 6.23067 | * 10 | * 15.4568 | * 3.847 | * 1.21653 | * 100 | * 15.5223 | * 1.2636 | * 0.12636 | * ...

...preschool aged children after completing this program, there are two theories that seemed to fit best for me as an adolescent counselor. Most of the problems that are occurring in the classroom are due to behavior, and it seems best to match the intervention to the behavior (Hackney, 1992). It has been my experience that 3 and 4-year-olds are under stress due to their environments and other factors upon entering the classroom causing a need for Behavioral Intervention. Sometimes children enter the classroom never being exposed to other children or never being a part of a larger group of children. Children who are displaying undesired behaviors must be taught how to act in their new environments. The goal of Behavioral Intervention is to weaken or eliminate said behaviors and replace them with more desirable ones. Since entering the classroom in 2008, the Office of Head Start was already promoting behavior-based interventions, so this particular theory is one that I am already familiar with, I am just now able to put a name to it. Behavior Intervention is one of the multiple theories that seems as though it would work best with my philosophies and so far for the preschool clients that I wish to serve. The second theory is Cognitive-Behavioral-Theory or CBT. CBT also seems to fit my views as a counselor in training and works well with Behavior Interventions. To change one's behavior, you have first to change the way they think. This again is the reason children who......

...------------------------------------------------- Artist Statement Making art is to me a never ending search mixed with a passion and a certain craving for creation. My passion for life, my search and craving collides between what I do now and what I do in my art. I’m sorta writing my biography with pictures. Louise Bourgeois says: "The whole art mechanism is the result of many privileges, and it was a privilege to be part of it… The privilege was the access to the unconscious. It is a fantastic privilege to have access to the unconscious. I had to be worthy of this privilege, and to exercise it. It was a privilege also to be able to sublimate. A lot of people cannot sublimate. They have no access to their unconscious" There is something very special in being able to sublimate your unconscious, and something very painful in the access to it..." End of quote. I believe the attraction to the objectively esthetic and beautiful is the basest of human attributes, tying us all together across otherwise arbitrary boundaries of ethnicity, culture, religion and taste. A universal truth if you will, that joins once estranged minds in a sense of unity. I like what William Blake says: A work of art consists of bodies, and is itself a body. “Body” doesn’t mean “figure”, but individuality and character. A living body is the unit it is, as every individuality is. Actually I really don’t wanna say too much about it; Art itself shows what it’s all about....
