The Collapse

Detroit, Michigan: a city where more than 1.1 million people have vanished in the past 60 years. The city has dropped 25% in population just in the last 10 years. The city crumbled apart, which forced people to abandon their houses and businesses, leaving them with nothing. Even hospitals and religious structures were abandoned--and are still abandoned--with no demand to fill them. Ultimately, the auto industry was hit the hardest. With a systematic city, there was nowhere for the people to find jobs, since the auto industry was also hurting. More than 200,000 people worked in the auto industry in the mid-20th century.

Since the slow migration out of Detroit, the number fell to 100,000 people in the early 21st century. People have compared the migration out of Detroit to the whole city of San Francisco being deserted. More than 1.1 million people have left the city over the past decades. With economic downward spiral, Detroit hit its lowest point. With less than 750,000 people living in the city, it has been hard for local government to get money for the federal government for urban aid--leaving people still living in the city to suffer more. Detroit was named the poorest city in the nation, with one out of three people living below federal poverty. (1) With so many people suffering, it led to many fires. Buildings and houses were burning rapidly. There were two major reasons for these fires; crime and insurance money.

Housing

The flight of the Big Three impacted the city, stopping all production. This meant layoffs for thousands of people. Starting in late 2006 early 2007, the city was getting closer to hitting its rock bottom. Detroit became the number one city in the nation ranked for foreclosures. It was said that more than 5% of…...

...to fit study time into your lunch break at work or in between classes. Having a set time to study is helpful. Otherwise, your family and or sleep will take a back burner. There are several techniques to help you manage your time such as; using the time monitor/time plan process. This process works by keeping track of where you are throughout the week. Doing so will help you know how much time you have left for other activities such as family, fun, and studying. This plan works so well because everyone only has 168 hours each week. By accounting for your time you will run into fewer conflicts. Time management is crucial if you are going to find time for all your activities and be successful doing so (Ellis, 2010). Accountability The final step to being a successful college student is to be accountable. Being accountable means being willing to accept responsibility for your own actions. Before you accept responsibility for a task, you must first understand what that task is. Once you know what your task is then you need to know how to complete your task. You should plan out the steps necessary to complete your task. For instance, the task I am trying to complete is getting my bachelor's degree. That means it is my responsibility to study, turn in my work on time and participate in class. If I fail to do any one of these steps, the fault is mine, and I am the one who suffers the consequences. It is important not to blame outside forces for your actions. Taking......

...Assignment 6 Final Draft Following the horrific events of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center, the United States has been unable to completely restore our trust in Middle Eastern nations and people for fear that they will plan another terrorist attack against us. In a post-9/11 world where Americans have become accustomed to associating Middle Easterners with terrorists, season 2 episode 1 of the television series 24 conveys this concept of otherness and the othering of Middle Easterners through its manipulation of time to show the dehumanization of Arabs as a threat to society and to stress the immediacy with which Americans must act against to such dangers. In this scene, 24 employs film analysis elements including windowing and time stamps to manipulate time in a way that emphasizes the immediacy of these actions and alters time as if it were real-time in order to show how Middle Easterners are often “othered” in a post-9/11 world. After the President of the United States has learned of the impending terrorist attack that is to occur in Los Angeles later that day, he says to a colleague that “there is a terrorist with his finger on a trigger, and [they’ve] got to get him.” While he is giving this statement, the episode employs a windowing effect in which the president is speaking in the top half of the screen and a Middle Eastern man, named Reza Naiyeer, is presented on the bottom half while he is driving in a convertible and speaking Arabic on the phone. The......

Mission Statement: “Sportsmen’s Lodge” One specific area that could be expanded upon is an all-inclusive family resort with something for everyone; even the family pets! In particular, for the outdoor lovers, the new resort would offer all of the upscale amenities standard as Caesar’s Entertainment, but also the opportunity for other activities such as hunting and fishing, and other outdoor activities. Again, this is great information, but it really isn’t a mission statement. You want to create a mission statement suitable for publication on your website. “Sportsmen’s Lodge: a Caesar’s Entertainment Subsidiary” The “Sportsmen’s Lodge” will be an all-inclusive resort with activities and amenities that will keep the whole family happy. Every family has had conversations at one time or another about where a vacation should be spent and what to do while there. Then there is the task of finding a place for the family pets to stay while their family is gone—but many families do not want to leave their beloved “furry” children. Vacationing at “Sportsmen’s Lodge” will be the perfect option for every family member because of the added amenities. The “Sportsmen’s Lodge” division will both address customer needs while also achieving competitive advantage. This new division will take......
